Did you have NFC turned on? Near Field Communication.
Is it Android or iPhone? If Android, what version? If you disable NFR, your phone cannot communicate with RFID chips anymore and bad people cannot use it as a means of stealing your data, as per my SO, the IT person.

Also, iPhone/Mac users please turn off Airdrop or at least limit it to your contacts only.
