Re: Tooth whitening trays at dentist vs Crest strips
I’ve never had whitening trays from dentist but did try the strips at home. My teeth hurt HORRIBY for close to a week. I have very sensitive teeth and use sensodyne daily because of it.
I also have bonding on front teeth. It’s hard because if you whiten your teeth and then bond-they will bond to match. Your teeth will begin to darken again and the bonding will stay the same. Change slightly. Then it will be very noticeable. You should ask your dentist what the best way to go about this

They should be matching the bonding to the color of your teeth, not vice versa

That's what they are doing, matching the bonding to teeth color. I haven't done Crest Strips in a few years so I am not happy with my teeth color now, so I want to whiten and then the bonding.

Try the 2 step crest system with a an electric toothbrush. Has made a huge difference in my teeth. Even my dentist commented on it.

The bonding on my front tooth really needed to be redone every year. The spot that is bonded becomes obvious when next to your tooth, especially if you drink coffee or wine. I have had success with the gel sold at CVS, It is called Plus White.

Re: Tooth whitening trays at dentist vs Crest strips
I have sensitive teeth and use Crest Whitestrips and get good results from it. I only once have had any sensitivity to the strips, and that only lasted a day or 2. They recommend using them every other day for sensitive teeth, but I usually do every day and then maybe skip a day here or there towards the end of the pack until I use them all up.

Re: Tooth whitening trays at dentist vs Crest strips
I've used Crest Strips plenty of times. They work great. The last time I used them, I felt they stuck on my teeth too much and when I tugged off, I felt it almost damaged the bottom of a tooth. So I never used it again. With the trays from dentist, I won't have to worry about that, yet the whitening formula is stronger and I just worry it is too much for my teeth.

With bonding the best thing is to re do it. It’s so easy to have bonding change color over time.

I haven't done the bonding yet. I have small chip on front tooth. I want to whiten teeth a bit before and then match the bonding to the whiter tooth color rather than match the bonding to color I have now.

Do you mean the trays from the dentist? I am wondering now after my appointment if they have different strengths.

Yes. Dentist trays were made from molds of my teeth with what looked like pre filled syringes of gel to squeeze into the molds. It was like $350 and hurt so bad.
I like the strips better I think.

So what's causing the sensitivity is the hydrogen peroxide. The higher the concentration, the worse it will be. The OTC stuff will always have less than the stuff the dentist gives you, hence why the trays from the dentist will cause more pain and sensitivity.

Got it. I am just wondering if the dentist has different strengths. While I have always used the Crest Strips, I have a problem getting them off and I can swear the bottom of one of a tooth was damaged from tugging it off the last time I used it. I am just trying to do this right as I must get this bonding done for this small crack in front tooth and teeth need a little whitening, but it is the higher strength the dentist gives you that scares me. When I brought up the strips, he said I could use them and if it isn't enough, do the whitening trays he recommended but in that case, I don't want to do that if I used the strips so close in time.

Re: Tooth whitening trays at dentist vs Crest strips
Crest makes a sensitive white strip and it’s a little less harsh.
