Betta fish

We just got our first betta fish today. I did some research before buying it and everything I read said to feed once a day, usually around 4-6 pellets. Today the employee at the pet store said to feed once every other day.

How often and how much do you usually feed your betta fish?

See how much he is eating per day. The more you feed, the more you will need to do water changes. I would do every other day or fewer pellets per day.

Just curious— what kind of tank do you have him in? Please tell me it isn’t in the bowl you bought it in. They need a tank with a heater.

We fed her once yesterday and she ate 5 pellets within like 10 mins but she seemed so lethargic after. She wasn’t swimming around like she was before she ate. So I was thinking that might be too much for her.

We have a tank with a filter and a heater Chat Icon

Our beta is in a large vase with no heater...it’s almosf 3 years old
My DH changes the water weekly and feeds it every morning
I never knew it needed a heater

From what I’ve read, they’re a tropical fish and should be in water that is 75-80 degrees. How much do you feed it?

Re: Betta fish

Use only silk plants, not plastic. The plastic can shred their fins. Get some kind of a leaf that your fish can lay on, they like that.
My tank has no heater. It is here at work and I do not have an outlet to plug a heater into. He's survived 4 years without a heated tank. If he were at home, I would have a heated tank with a filter.

I feed Blue about 6-8 pellets a day of Betta Bio Gold, they are really small ones. He eats them fairly quickly, follows my fingers as I drop them in one by one.

He was recently very sick with fin rot and did not eat for 2 weeks.

^ yes, I have a silk plant (came up in my research prior to buying the fish to use silk, not plastic.

Wel...I’ve been feeding her 5 pellets a day and she is doing great! I think the first night she might not have been used to the food (I don’t know what kind they fed her at the pet store). She is so active during the day and cuddles up in a tiny spot behind the filter and heater to rest at night.
