Something is wrong with my Betta fish

I have had Bleu, a Betta fish, for 2 years. I keep him in a small bowl where he has been living since we got him. He is fed (not overfed) and his water is kept clean. Today I noticed that he looks as if his belly is distended - sort of like a tumor. He isnt swimming around like he usually does - in fact it looks as if he is weighted down. I suppose it is possible that he is digesting something, but I don't know - I just never noticed anything like that on him before. I feel a lil helpless. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Re: Something is wrong with my Betta fish

Sounds like it might be swim bladder disease. My Ryukin Fantail goldfish used to get swim bladder.

Hope this helps...!

That is exactly what he looks like. Thanks for the help. I guess there really is no comforting a fish. Though I have to say he looks really P-O'd at me. I suppose I would be too if I were constipated.

Re: Something is wrong with my Betta fish

Swim bladder diseases are different- it seems like they try to swim down, but just keep floating to the top.

Your fish has dropsy, which is very common in Bettas. I don't know what exactly you can do, but bettas normally live for 2-3 years. I do not have any experience in treating this disease, I haven't had it happen to me yet.

I have included a link that I hope can help you:
