Aldi?
Anyone shop at Aldi? I’ve been hearing good things about the store but I’ve never been in one. What do you buy there? All your groceries?

Aldi?
I do. Been shopping there for years. I usually buy 80% of my groceries there and fill in with Costco and stop and shop. It took me awhile to get used to it because they only carry their brands. We tried everything and then eliminated things as we didn’t like them.

Re: Aldi?
Yup. Its become our new favortie place to shop.
My boyfriend is in NJ and there is another store called Lidl. Its pretty much the same store. I believe its one of the Aldi brothers. They carry all the same stuff. But we found Lidl to be a bigger store . At least of the stores near him in NJ.

Re: Aldi?
I use Lidl (not related to Aldi, but the same idea). I get my basics from there (including clothes) and fill in the gaps at other supermarkets. I fill in the gaps with meats mainly.
Check the ads online before you go. They have great deals.
For example, I’ll go there for veggies (the later I go, I get a discount), bread, cheese, cold cuts, and whatever specials they have. The products are really quality.
I don’t get meat there too often, but I will buy chicken, turkey, fish, and chopped meat there.
Give it a try!

Aldi?
It’s great for pantry and snack items and basics like milk and eggs. Their produce is very hit or miss though. I haven’t really tried their meats

I’m so happy you guys are getting Lidl. It’s the best supermarket ever!

Bottom line is if you don’t mind shopping out of boxes, then you will be fine. These stores are very German based. But once you get used to it, you’ll be fine.

Re: Aldi?
I actually went in there for the first time, and liked it. I bought a bunch of snacks(nuts, and dried fruit) for a real cheap price. Their meats were a good price, because I only feed my dogs cooked chicken instead of dog canned food.

Aldi?
I like the produce, baking supplies, canned goods, snacks, eggs, shredded cheese, milk, yogurt, frozen fruits and veggies, chocolate. I like their ziploc bags too. I just started getting meats once in a while and most have been good. I just wasnt a fan of their sausage.
I don't go regularly bc I like to get everything in one trip and they never have everything I'm looking for but once in a while I make it work or if I need stuff to get through a few days. It's perfect for stocking up before a snow storm lol.

Im too embarrassed to tell you how little I paid for a dress I bought there. And it got me the most compliments of any other dress I've worn in years.
I also bought a few snowsuits at a great price to donate to New York Cares. They got great reviews on line.
This place is becoming my latest obsession! lol

Their clothes are pretty good. I have a lot of tops from them and some sweatpants for summer. They last a long time and are cheap. Heidi Klum does some clothing for them, too. I’m kicking myself for not buying a leather jacket there for cheap.
They did a special here comparing the meat beteeen Lidl and two other places. They didn’t do the best on steaks and other pieces of meat. I would go to a butcher anyway for a steak.
Also it’s really great for household items. I get my cleaners from there and they are half the price than a regular supermarket. I read that they use the same producers, but it’s a different name.
Oh and love their wine. cheap and good.
My neighbour and I are always talking how great Lidl is. When we go over to each other’s apartments we always ask where what we are eating is from. The answer is usually Lidl.

Re: Aldi?
I wish Aldi were closer to me. It's such a far drive. There is one in Rego Park, but you couldn't pay me enough to drive to Queens Blvd on the weekend. I shopped Aldi when I was in Germany.

The dress was from Heidi Klums line! We dont eat beef, pork or chicken so I dont buy the meat. But we have purchased the salmon and its always been good. My absolute favorite thing from there are Greek Feta salads. Its feta and olives in marinated herbs & spices. I stock up for the week on those.

I like Aldi a lot, and the other market mentioned here - Lidl - will be taking over the Best Market I shop at every week. I’m pretty stoked about Lidl, moreso after reading this thread.

Where is this going to be ? While not trying to sound stalker-ish, I do know that you live somewhat close to me. We share the same LIRR line.

Re: Aldi?
i shop there. i get all my basics and then supplement with costco.
the thin cut pork chops are our favorite. i also like to get their pork loin for a quick dinner.
we only use almond milk and theirs is good and inexpensive. usually two times a month their eggs will be on sale for 89c a dozen (regular price 1.59)
as someone mentioned, their produce is hit or miss. i see they are changing to mostly organic now, still at decent prices.
like klingklang mentioned, it's a fmaily owned company. in germany it's known as aldi north and aldi south. in us, it's known as aldi and trader joes.

Haha no stalker vibes detected!
You know the shopping center in Great Neck Plaza with Best Market, Wild Ginger, Rite Aid, etc? At Great Neck Road + S Middle Neck Road.
I don’t know when the change is happening but I’m thinking it’ll be sort of soon because they aren’t stocking the shelves with certain staples when they run out. Will update you when I hear of the grand opening!

Good to know, thank you. We travel to shop because I can't stand our Stop N Shop. We travel to Lake Success for Shop Rite, Merrick for Trader Joe's and Farmingdale for Stew Leonards. We just got North Shore Farms in Whitestone, so that is my go to place for really fresh produce and specialty bread. Other stuff is too expensive unless it is on sale. Bayside sucks for good food shopping.

Aldi?
i would go more often if it was closer.
i've liked what i've purchased from them, but the savings don't justify the additional time/gas to get there.

Kling Klang- what do you mean by shop out of boxes? Btw .. this is random but I've always been curious if you dont mind sharing-- i know you live in Germany--but what is your back story in how you ended up moving there?

They just have ways of making everything very efficient to minimize how much staff are needed and keep costs down. So they don't stock each item on the shelf individually, they leave them in boxes but it's hardly noticeable. If you look carefully, you'll also see they have barcodes all over each item so the checkout person never has to look for one. Little thinks like that.

I just did a google search for pictures cause I didn’t understand what that meant either, but it’s just like BJ’s set up.
