if you get/got a rasie when does your company
give it to you, when will you see it in your check. Mid year? is the norm. My company gives it mid year all retro added in a reg paycheck so the employees get hit with a large tax rate.
is that the norm.

Dh finds out about raises two paychecks in advance usually-bonus is paid as a lump sum and taxed up the wazoo

It depends on the company.
We get a review on our anniversary and if that review warrants a raise, the raise is given retro to the anniversary date.
So everyone is getting their raises at different times depending on their start date.

It depends on the company.
We get a review on our anniversary and if that review warrants a raise, the raise is given retro to the anniversary date.
So everyone is getting their raises at different times depending on their start date.
i used to work for a company where this was the norm.
here it's done about two months after the new fiscal year. once the dust settles from yearly reviews, you'll have a quick conversation with your immediate manager. that's when they tell you the break down. it takes affect some time in august and it's not retroactive. that's the day it's effective.
the only time it was different was last year. because of the big tax cut for companies, they wanted to share it with employees asap, so we got our yearly raises in april instead of waiting until august.

We are told in Oct and its usually retroactive in next paycheck because they usually tell us a few weeks late.

Aside from regular, planned increases, I generally find out a few weeks after the raise is implemented, so the next check then includes retro pay.

When I didn’t work for myself, it was mid year. Same time as reviews.
Now, I raise my prices accordingly (1099)
We also have a retail business. We give raises every January. They get their bonus and told their new salary at that point starting Jan 1st. also with owning a small business, we give raises in general whenever we feel the person deserves it, they get it.

when i was at my company (recently laid off) we got our raise when it was given and no retro pay. they had recently changed a few years back that you can't get a raise at least 12-18 months after your last one.
so even though reviews were still done in January you may not get a raise till August but there was no retro pay you just got the raise in the next pay check.

My old company would tell you in December and you would get it in your second January paycheck (and retro pay that should’ve been in the first paycheck).

If we give a raise it's in your next check.
If we give a bonus we give it on a separate check.
Unused sick/vacation time, also a separate check.

I have always had a lag of at least 2 paychecks.
At DH's old company they used to come through in March.

That's a great way to retain and reward employees

DH is part of a union at work so all of his raises go into effect Jan 1 every year. Any raises I get are merit based. Ive gone up about $15k since I started at my company and its always been effective as soon as they decide to do it.

Our fiscal year ends in March, so increases pop up in June. Why it takes them three months to get them into payroll is one of the great mysteries of life.
Bonuses, those measly offerings that we peons get and taxed up the wazoo, are also paid out in June.

mystery to me too, it benefits the company to keep the $$ in their account vs giving to employees who need it. I think thats why it takes so long.

We get evaluations, raises, and bonuses in May. They are not retroactive to the beginning of the year.

Spring. We get notified at the same time it kicks in pretty much, so we see it in 2 weeks when we get our next check.
