Re: do you have any credit card debt?
We have one with under $7k on it right now.
We pay it off every year with our tax return. And every year I say we won't let it get that high again and it always creeps up on us.

Re: do you have any credit card debt?
No - I had about $25k of CC debt in my 20s and the feeling it gave me was debilitating. I would lose sleep over it every single night. It was one of the worst feelings I have ever had. I think I would take drastic measures to avoid going into that kind of debt again. Second job, selling things of value, moving somewhere less expensive. My husband and I are both very conservative people though so we probably don't have the same view on this as most people. We almost always take the conservative route with every single area in our lives. Sometimes I wish I could be a little less Type A and not care about stuff like this but it's the way I am wired.

Over 10g. SO lost his high paying job and now works for minimum wage and it's hard with him paying child support for 2 kids under his old income, plus we just bought a house a year ago. Almost everyday items like groceries, gas, whatever goes on the card.

Wait if you lose your job and take a job for a lot less money you still have to pay child support based on your OLD income? How is that right???

it's not right, her SO should go to court and get the CS lowered if he can't afford it. A lot of men don't do this and go into financial ruin because they don't change their income in the system.

do you have any credit card debt?
I’m so mad at myself that I am in the $5,000 debt zone I stopped working last March and it took forever to get approved for disability so over the months of not working I used a credit card It’s not a huge amount but I was literally debt free for years

Loads. Around 30k
I don't use credit cards now. Bad decisions combined with 2 job losses got us where we are. Its such a burden. I feel guilty spending any amount of money.
my parents racked up huge cc debt and ended up going bankrupt i think twice, at least once that I remember. my father had been laid off and my grandmother was bedridden and mom and her 2 siblings were paying aides for around the clock care for her. cc were their only option. it was a bad time, I feel you.
Thankfully we both landed great paying jobs after this but the downside was we had to put both kids in daycare. We pay about 25k a year to daycare. We got a little bit of break when my daughter entered kindergarten this year but we won't get a real break until my son goes into K which is not for 2 more years. Its prevented us from being able to put any substantial amount towards the debt....

do you have any credit card debt?
my dad taught me to fear debt and instilled a lot of practical money lessons. i did well, had like 5k of student loans that i paid off fairly quickly. then i married my dh who had 135k of student loan debt that he was only paying the minimums on. he never had a credit card to get into debt with, so we pay ours off in full every month while getting all the rewards we can.
that being said, i know we are one job loss, medical condition, rainy day away from needing to use ccs. it may happen, we do our best to save what we can but with a mortgage, student loan payments and a baby on the way who will need full time daycare, we are just going to do the best we can

Re: do you have any credit card debt?
No... we put a ton on our CC’s every month (gas, daycare, groceries, basically everything) but pay it all off every month so there’s no balance & no interest. We use CC’s for the convenience & the rewards.

Re: do you have any credit card debt?
When I was in nursing school and we were living on just DH's income, we accrued cc debt. Not proud of it but our water heater blew, roof needed to be replaced and car issues at same time. 15k later, there we were.
I started my job as an RN and every one of my paychecks paid it off.
I totally understand how it happens, having been through it before.

do you have any credit card debt?
We have a lot of CC debt we are currently paying off. Not proud of it but life happens.
Honestly I'm surprised at the amount of people who have responded who don't have CC debt since in my immediate circle of friends most of us have a significant amount of debt. Kudos to ya'll..I hope to be there soon.

do you have any credit card debt?
We used to put all expenses on one card to earn points and pay it off at the end of each month. Now, disabled, not working and one salary, with some emergency expenses, we have a serious amount of CC debt. We never live fancy, and don't keep up with Joneses. Circumstances beyond our control. Never been late for a single payment on anything, though!

Re: do you have any credit card debt?
Yes and it gives me anxiety and keeps me up at night. Im trying this year to not use the credit cards, to pay of some of them. We live on my husbands small salary and I stay home with our three kids. In september I will be looking to go back to work since Ill have all 3 in school full time. We just put new siding on our house and thats our big bill. We transfer some of the debt to other cards but still it doesn't help. I really need to sit down with a financial advisor to see what we can do and how to pay off some of it. I don't want my kids to suffer due to our debt so we do take vacations, the kids are in activities and we spend on them. My parents help alot but they are not paying off our debt. In my mind I think about what it will feel like when we pay off certain credit cards and how good it will feel to be finally saving money. This post makes me feel like Im not alone and keeping this horrible secret.

He went to court and they said he should take a second job. He didn't technically get fired from his previous job. He was forced to resign so as not to get fired and then look worse to get another job. Complicated issue.

Sometimes the Judge will hold you to a higher salary, or a minimum salary you should be able to make in your profession, to prevent people from intentionally making less (or hiding income, e.g., getting paid off the books for a portion of your salary) to pay less child support. Unfortunately,in order to prevent the people who are trying to game the system, it can hurt people trying to do the right thing who have just hit hard times.

Re: do you have any credit card debt?
No debt other than mortgage.
I have to say, the best thing we ever did was pay off all credit card debt and both cars BEFORE buying a home. That enables us to save for the down payment easily and once it was paid off I said I’d never go back to debt.
I use one credit card for EVERYTHING and pay it off every month. The only things coming out of our checking account monthly is the mortgage, utilities, life ins, car ins, kids college funding, and one visa payment.
We make a modest income, I would say less combined than some make on their own, but are able to be comfortable due to no debt.

Can you take a home equity or refinance your mortgage to pay everything off and have the debt in one place easier to pay down? I’ve seen people’s stress levels go down dramatically by doing this.

We're actually planning on doing this in the spring. DH and I have an embarrasing amout of CC debt for no other reason then we were incredibly irresponsible when we were younger. Thankfully the value on our house has syrocketed since we bought it so we have plenty of equity to pay off the CCs and hopefully his car loan. That will free up somewhere around $1500/mo for us and we will be in such a better place. Now its paycheck to paycheck and I'm due with our 2nd DC in April and I really dont want our kids to suffer from our poor choices

Re: do you have any credit card debt?
We used to have a lot - needed it to live after everyone in my family passed and at one time we were carrying 3 houses in a failing economy. With lots of life changes this past year, we sold our home and thankfully "made" enough to pay off our cc debt. Now I use my cc monthly but am sure it is paid off each month. It is easier to put things on the cc and get the points/cash back than use cash.

Thank you, Im going to consider this. It really hard living on long island with 3 kids and one small income. I will be going back to work in September and it will help but still I want to get this debt gone. I have to look into both of those suggestions to see what I can do. I really need a financial advisor to sit down with to help me. I have to find someone.

do you have any credit card debt?
For those that are in debt, I posted we have no CC debt, at one point in my life about 6 years ago, I had about 12k, it was horrible because I needed them to live just to survive, my student loans are my ENTIRE monthly salary, I liked my job but I needed to make more money. That’s what I did, granted it was easier then, at one point I felt like my “budget” wasn’t in control, we weren’t using credit cards but weren’t saving when we should have been saving about $2k monthly, it took a few months of reevaluating our finances and where we were spending. I’m a huge Dave Ramsey fan, I follow loosely but I I follow the “debt free community” on IG, we have student loans and I have been using the tips and advice there to pay them off and I feel much more in control of my budget and have a plan for our student loans. For anyone struggling I would definitely recommend looking into it! I don’t agree with everything he says, but it was and continues to be helpful just to feel in control
