Any January baby moms here?
My son has a bday party for boy in his class. He is turning 4. I feel like I should get a gift card given I'm sure they are inundated with toys but then I think that at 4, they really like to open presents and a gift card isn't fun.
What would prefer? Maybe I'll just wrap a gift card like a present. LOL

My son is December but we usually have a party in early January.
I think a gift card is great. We got a mix of both and I appreciated the giftcards - especially ones for things like clothes or movies.

My son loves getting gift cards, because he gets to go to the store and pick out a toy. You could also get a really small present plus a gift card if you want something for them to open. Once we got a super small gift that we thought would be fun, but it was less than $5, so we gave a $20 gift card with it.

You could do a small book and a GC to Barnes and Noble.
I used get a GC to a candy store and pair it with some candy. Kids love that but not sure the moms do!

I would do the GC. My nephew's bday is in January, BIL (his father) asks people for gift cards each year because they become inundated with toys after Christmas.

Gift card!!! I love getting gift cards! Agree about a gift card to Barnes and Nobles & I get a small book instead of a card!

My DD is Jan 2, and gift cards or gifts are fine. Honestly, regardless of the time of year, I usually give gift cards for kid parties anyway bc I never know what each kid has or is into anyway.

My 10 yo is a December baby but we do his bday in January and gift cards are the best! I feel awful saying that for some reason though, when parents ask what he would like lol.
My brothers have always given a specific gift for my DS and it’s always his and my favorite lol. The one brother gives him a gift card to target (now dicks) with a baseball card pack and my other brother gives him a Barnes and noble gift card with a book. It’s special but not overwhelming right after Christmas.

my birthday is New Years Day. Growing up, people always just gave me whatever toy that got for christmas that they didn't want, or got doubles of HAHAHA But seriously... .the gift card idea is great, and i usually do that for every birthday party my kids go to if i don't really know the kid. I usually get them a small toy, so they have something to open- and then the gift card. so i'll get them maybe a $10 toy, and then a $20 gift card. or get them a $25 movie theater gift card, with a couple boxes of candy wrapped up or something. (my oldest is 8 so they're almost starting to get out of things like toys )

Mom of 2 December babies, we have friend parties in January. YES to gift card. Dds are just as excited when we explain they can pick out whatever they want with it. At this point, they are still jaded by all the Xmas and family bday presents. They don’t miss a physical gift.

My twins are January 12. I ask people give them money and stick it in their college account or buy them an experience if they ask. If they don’t ask I either save it for summer and give them a new toy over summer or return it. I do the same with Christmas 1/2 gifts are automatically stored away and they get them over the summer. Gift cards are great because they can be used any time!

im sure he'll get enough gifts to open. you can always buy something small to go with it like coloring book or something from the dollar store.

This is what I do, especially after the crazy crap DS got for his birthday. I buy a gift card and a small toy for under $5. Right now there is so much on clearance at Target. You can get something small (but decent) for pretty cheap.
DS just had his class party and I don't know why, but the parents around here love to buy toys from Marshalls/Home Goods. I guess it is one of the closest stores around and I def don't mind someone bargain shopping, but they peel off the price and barcode (so now I can't return or exchange the broken toys). I wish they would give a gift receipt or just peel the price, not the whole label. Out of the 16 toys DS got for his birthday, I think 7 went into the trash. Such a waste of money. Most of them don't work out of the box or they break after playing with it for 5 mins. Maybe it's just our luck.

That's what I would do. Something silly and small- puzzle, bubbles, coloring book, storybook, etc. and a gift card.
