Parents of 1st graders
DS bday party is coming up. I’m racking my brain on party favors. I hate giving junk... I try to be very thoughtful with my favors. If you were a guest how would you feel recieving a 5-7 dollar gift card to Barnes and nobles ? I was going to buy a book for each kid (party theme) but then I got to thinking not everyone may enjoy or carachter theme so why not let them choose???? Thoughts?

Are there books at Barnes & Noble in that price range? If not, you're basically handing out a coupon. We've gotten gift cards for fro-yo or candy places, which was nice bc I didn't have to shell out extra cash to use it.

That’s what I was thinking too. The parents would have to put in more money just to buy one book.
I’d do $5 to Five Below, Target (think dollar section) or Ralph’s.

Ditto. Books are expensive. And I don't even know where there's a B&N around me. I like the idea but I don't know if I'd use it.

Not to mention the only Barnes and Noble left that I know of is in the mall and we don't do malls. If we absolutely have to buy a book we use Amazon. But also don't really buy books because we don't have the storage and she wouldn't read the book twice anyway. We use the library exclusively. (or for me and DH our kindles to download)
I second Fro Yo or Ralph's type places- you can get something there for the value of the gift card.

It's a nice idea but since we really don't shop there, I'd prefer to just receive a book. Dd would probably prefer that over having to wait anyway.

I would just buy a book from Amazon, the GC is. good idea but I think it may be more of a hassle for parents.

I would be fine without it, but bear in mind that kids sometimes love that stuff. My daughter sometimes looks forwards to the bag of junk. But yes, a GC is fine and the parents would like it better.

I would just get the book. Yes, every kid may not enjoy the character or theme, but who cares? If your DS likes it and that's what you are basing your party around, go for it.
I would never sniff at a free book.

I would love that instead of the stuff that ends up in the garbage. 5 below gift cards would be good.
