Hair Cut for Kid with Sensory Issues
My DS seems to have some mild sensory issues. He can't take loud noises and frequently doesn't like the way things feel on him.
Hair cuts have been very difficult. We tried to buzz his hair, and I even bought buzzers that are quiet and got good reviews for kids who can't deal with loud sounds, but he still hates it and cries. We tried taking him to a barber, because I though maybe he'd be better with a stranger, but it didn't go well. Last time, my husband cut his hair with scissors, which took forever, but was much calmer than the buzzer. However, my husband didn't really know what he was doing so it was very uneven. It's starting to get long again, and I'd love to get it professionally cut before the holidays.
Does anyone know if a barber will cut a kids hair without using buzzers? I asked my husband to talk to his barber, but he takes forever to do anything and I'll have to nag him forever. I've asked him a million times to take my son with him when he gets his hair done, but he doesn't do it. Do the places that specialize in kids cuts - e.g., Zippity Doo's, do scissor cuts?

They come to your home for haircuts. But it is not cheap. They work with special needs.

I would maybe ask at your own salon, where you get your hair cut. I know my salon does kids cuts and I’m positive they would be very accommodating.

Re: Hair Cut for Kid with Sensory Issues
Hi! I took my son (who had the same sort of issues) to Little Clippers in Oceanside. They definitely did scissor cuts.

I'd worry about going to a regular salon. Even if they only use scissors, other people are probably going to be there getting their hair done- blow dryed, buzzed, whatever.

Re: Hair Cut for Kid with Sensory Issues
Our barber cuts with a scissors. My 2nd ds used to sit on my lap at the barber while he got a hair cut.

This is a good point. I didn't even think about the hair dryers. He hates those too.
Previously, before we realized the sensory issues, my husband's barber told him to bring our son in during the slow time of day so he could take his time. We didn't realize that buzzers would be a problem no matter what. I wanted my husband to ask his barber about the scissor cut and when a really slow time would be, but maybe that's not enough since he'll get upset about anyone else being buzzed.
