Any recs where to go hiking alone (not strenous but a good trail) (just me and my dog)? No more than 1.5 hours away from Bayside...
Looking for a few hours in nature alone!

Download the app "all trails". It will find trails near you and you can filter based on difficulty, distance, etc.

I've been along a lot of the Greenbelt trail. If you do the trail that goes near Lake Ronkonkoma, Smithtown, Bohemia, etc, stay off of the northern sections. Way too much road and not enough trail, and the roads that it crosses are dangerous.
I love Connetquot State Park. It's roughly 5 miles from north to south, and the trails are wide and clear.
Blydenburgh County Park has a trail that's around 5 miles around the lake. There's also a fenced in dog park inside the park.

Re: Hiking
Blydenburgh is my favorite dog-friendly place to hike. It's such a pretty hike with a lot of varied terrain and incredible water views of the Nissequogue River, especially in the fall. The route I do has a little river front stop along the way and the dog park towards the end of the hike. It's a great, friendly, active dog park too.
