Was a hot and humid summer with very little breaks in the heat. I have solar and had to pay a little bit extra as AC. was on more and more this year.

Ours was ridiculous for this summer! Definitely the highest bill we've ever had in the 11 years we've lived here. And this summer we even made a conscious effort to only run the A/C on super hot days.

I was in the city for 3 weeks this july working, but i'm usually home the entire summer (i'm a teacher). Was honestly shocked that my august bill (reflecting july usage) was $60 higher compared to July of 2017. Makes so sense because i had no AC running!

Yes! In fact one recent month was more than double a typical summer month. They had just replaced our meter but were able to pull the old one and adjust the bill. The woman I spoke to agreed that it must be a mistake and we did get a decent chunk credited back. This month though was still very high but dh has been cranking the ACs more than usual so I chalked it up to that. I'm hoping they start to come back down now.

Ugh don’t even get me started this summer has been about $400 more total than last summer. We have central air and lower it to 76 when we are it at work so at least 2 days I’m gone working, it stays at 72 if we are home or in bed and we never did that before this summer....I’m sure the bill for September will be no better...

Re: pseg bills
Mine was incredibly high - they said they underestimated my balanced billing by over $1k?
Also - there was *another* rate hike apparently. But we don't even have central AC so why it's so high is beyond me.

Does central raise your bills? I always thought CAC would lower the bills because it's more efficient than a window or wall AC unit, no?

Central is more efficient than a wall unit/ window unit as far as I’ve heard!

Re: pseg bills
A friend of mine just said he looked at his bill for last summer and there was a rise in the actual average temperature- he said this summer was an average of five degrees hotter
He also said he had his air set to 78 for a week when they went away and still his bill was much higher
Ours has been off since Thursday (a part broke and we’re waiting for it to come in). Maybe this will help bring the cost down
Such bs how everything is so friggin expensive

If you look at the bill, half of it is for delivery while the other half is actual usage. I've analyzed this damn bill too much trying to figure out WHY it is so expensive. They also charge MORE for each kwh in the summer months. So greedy! I wish someone could do something. Talk about monopoly.

I have an old house so I am sure CAC is more efficient, I juist meant I'm not doing anything differently or running anything more to warrant such an increase.

CAC is more efficient but it's cooling your whole house. If you have a window unit, you tend to just leave it on in 1 or 2 rooms at a time.
