Sensitivity after a filling
Anyone here have sensitivity in a tooth/teeth after a filling was done, and how long did it last you? Long story short- I had a deep filling done over three weeks ago, had sensitivity and pain, saw different dentists and an endodontist who said it didn't appear I needed a root canal. Pain finally subsided but sensitivity to cold is still there.

Re: Sensitivity after a filling
Yes. Use sensodyne tooth paste for a few weeks. It should eventually dull out. I use it everyday because I just have sensitive teeth all around. But when my dh gets a filling, he uses it for a little bit to help with the initial sensitivity. If the endo looked and said you shouldn’t need a RC, it should be ok. But obv if even the sensodyne doesn’t do it, it’s time to go back

Re: Sensitivity after a filling
Yes. I went back to dentist concerned about an infection but there were no signs. Go back if you see swelling, redness, or if it doesn’t get better.
What I learned: dental work can irritate the nerve in the tooth which will cause pain to temperature/chewing. This can take weeks to totally go away. Every time you chew, you can irritate it a little.
Use sensodyne, purposely chew on other side and use a straw for hot/cold drinks. Doc said ok to use ibuprofen if needed. Might take a few weeks to be 100% but you should see improvement along the way
He said some people have more sensitive nerves than others.

Yes. My dentist said the sensitivity can last upwards of a month. Sensodyne helps.

Re: Sensitivity after a filling
my teeth are hypersensitive to begin with. i always have issues for a while after a filling.
my dentist gave me a prescription for a colgate toothpaste..crap i forget the name right now. i rub it on the sensitive spots at night and let it sit there. i use colgate sensitive or sensodyne toothpaste and these help greatly.
also, listerine now makes an anti sensitivity rinse too.
PREVIDENT..THATS the name.
