. Some Federal government buildings will be off-limits unless you have a passport as well. I can't find a list of buildings, though. I keep seeing "200,000+ Federal Buildings, but museums, libraries, etc, aren't among the restricted buildings", so I'm not 100% sure what ones they're referring to.
I think that's for when have business with the FBI or Federal reserve or something.
I know someone who had a meeting with NASA, and at that time, he had to leave his license with the security while he was there, so in cases like that, they probably require a federal ID.
