Re: Spinoff to cars and kids and strangers
Here's a scenario:
You're at the beach in the water, you notice a 7 year old kid playing by themselves at the waters edge.. don't think anything of it. You eventually see the kid out of the corner of your eye walking up and down the beach a lot, playing by themselves, sometimes going in the water. You also notice no adult near them, at all. This goes on for at least 15 min.
Do you start to really watch the kid and see if there is any adult supervision nearby, or see if the kid looks like they're scared/lost?
Or do you shrug your shoulders and say, oh i'm sure someone is watching them, i'll just myob and go back to your business

I would watch the kid a bit and if I really didn’t notice anyone with him, I’d let a lifeguard know and they could take it from there.
But I also said i would have watched the car while that mom was shopping out of my own personal concern.
I went to a concert last night and there was a very pregnant lady in front of me. Every time she got up to get out of the aisle, there was always some asshole running down to get closer to the stage and I found myself jumping up and blocking her off. Did I have to do that ? No. Did she even acknowledge the fact that I saved her from being knocked over more than a few times, no. But didn’t stop me from doing it. I could have just been like well, she’s an adult, she knows what’s she doing, etc. but she didn’t see the people coming like I did so I reacted for her.

Your kid running away in the store, I am going to play zone defense for you too.
Otherwise myob.
I'm going to say, from experience, nobody helps in this situation. People will stand there and watch the kid run right passed them. I once had 2 grown men standing in the opening of a school field fence, move out of the way so my 4 year old could get passed them and run into the parking lot. They saw me chasing after him and yelling for him to stop. But moved out of his way and let him pass right through them. I thanked them for their consideration and was told I'm a ******.

In this case they should have helped for sure because the child was running into a dangerous area (parking lot) but I think sometimes, in a situation like a store or whatever, people are nervous to touch anyone's children. It's sad, but the way society is today.
