Is anyone dreading having visitors?
Since no one lives around us, everyone will be visiting. At first I felt so fortunate that people were coming to see my baby.
Well, this week, my sister had a fall break from school and stayed with us. And we had a friend from FL stay a few days to help Leo with the move. Both guests were extremely low maintence, but Leo was so glad to see them leave so he can get back on schedule.
We are going to have a revolving door. Some aren't staying with us, but they will still be over here all day.
Also, am I suppose to keep the fridge stocked? They have to know this is a different type visit, right?
I have a week of inlaws and my sister here mid Dec. Then another sister and her fiance. Then my mother and Leo's 2 friends. It will go till the end of January. A month and a half
ETA:also, does anyone have experience with those fold away beds? I really don't have room to buy a real bed.

Re: Is anyone dreading having visitors?
I'm with you on this one! At first I was sad that no one would be here to see the baby when he/she is born and visit us in the hospital, but now we have people coming from the Tuesday before Thanksgiving through 12/5 (my parents, then my sister) and then friends the following two weekends. Dh is going to have to worry about stocking the fridge. I'm sure your guests won't expect to be entertained. As far as the foldaway bed, we have a double bed (full sized) in our guest room/baby's room and a queen sized air mattress. The air mattress is great. Just get one at Target. They are not that expensive.

Yikes. I don't know what to tell you. I wasn't dreading visitors, but that's because I knew they'd be leaving within a few hours. I really don't know what I'd do if people had stayed with us. Having a new baby is hard enough! Though it might be nice having all those extra hands around . All I can say is good luck to you! As for keeping the fridge stocked, while it would be nice of you, I really don't think that people would be expecting that of you! Don't stress yourself out about it too much!

Re: Is anyone dreading having visitors?
I am dreading it. We don't generally have people over very often to begin with (just due to lack of space) and so when we DO have guests, I feel like I spend sooooo much time prepping, cleaning, shopping etc. Now that the baby is coming, I know to expect "drop-ins" a lot more often and I totally am dreading that! I'm very house-conscious and dont want to feel like I have to impress!

Re: Is anyone dreading having visitors?
Yeah. I am.
My mom lives in Manhattan (I live on Staten Island) and she can come and go because she has a car. My SMIL lives 10 minutes away so that is great.
But my SIL and my MIL are a different story. MIL refuses to ever rent a car when she flies up here and makes us pay for car service or pick her up. Then she will have a problem that we only have one guest room with one bed and she and her gf will share it. She needs to know that we don't care about that.
My SIL will just bring the world with her and have a fight with her husband or her daughter will get sick.
I wish I could only have people who will be helpful come visit me!

Re: Is anyone dreading having visitors?
YES! My Inlaws can't wait to get in the car and start driving here when I go into labor. I've already told my husband that I don't want anyone at the hospital before the baby is born. I'm just not into people walking the halls waiting for me to give birth and then thinking they can rush right in the room. For me, hospital visitors the next day is acceptable.
Inlaws will be staying with us for a few days which is fine since we have a great basement with a full bath and queen bed, so they will be all the way downstairs. I get along with them great, but it is just whne you have a baby, you need your house to be your own and not people sleeping everywhere when you need to get up in the middle of the night for a bottle, etc.
I've already told DH that SIL is NOT welcome to come and stay. She is single, and tags along everywhere with the parents. Worst part is she is 35! It is just hard b/c my family is very independant of each other and DH's family is all up in everyones business. My parents who live close by have the sense to go out for a few hours when they visit as to not be overbearing. DH's family sits around all day long.
And as for planning food, etc...no way. I can barely get myself to the grocery strore these days to keep us fed, so the last thing on my mind is worrying about what visitors will eat. My thoughts on that are go to the store and make me dinner...I just had a baby!

Re: Is anyone dreading having visitors?
i'm nervous about my MIL- i know she means well but she doesn't get it that the type of help I need might not be what she wants to do. my mom gets it though- she knows it could involve laundry, cooking or cleaning- and that hopefully I'll be breast feeding so I might need to just be lounging with the baby and getting "used" to her and she might need to take up the slack- she's cool with that- but I don't know about anyone else.

That is my situation exactly (minus the breastfeeding) and that is why I want to have my mom around, she doesn't see it as a vacation.
When my SIL had my neice, her mother (my MIL) flew up from Florida, she made SIL pick her up at the airport (they live in Baltimore) then she complained that the house was too dirty and the cats were bothering her, so they packed everyone up and drove THREE hours to her inlaws beach house in Delaware. HOW did that help my SIL with a new baby??

Re: Is anyone dreading having visitors?
I am having Thanksgiving here. My sister goes to school 2 hours away, so she will be here. Then my cousin, her DH, and 10 year old will be here too. I have a feeling they are coming with some baby goodies so that will be a nice visit.
Then the craziness starts. My sister from NY will be coming down and staying with us. Totally welcomed, she will be a big help. My mother can't be here, she is the next best thing.
Inlaws are staying at a nearby hotel. I felt bad laying down the law, but it would have been too much.
My mother is coming in January. will be a complete help housework wise.

Re: Is anyone dreading having visitors?
I have my inlaws next door and my parents 10 mins away. The night/day I go into labor I already told DH they are the only ones to know (of course our siblings as well). Im not going to be ready for so many visitors, right away, at the hospital. When I get home, dh already told his boss he's taking 2 weeks vacation. I dont think I will mind the visitors. Im sure they will all be a big help.

Re: Is anyone dreading having visitors?
I know how you feel. My MIL just left after a week and my SIL's are coming next weekend. This is their 3rd trip down from Boston in 4 weeks. I just want to be alone for a weekend,
