Dreading tonight.
So after working and going to class all day, I think I may have to go to a wake.
I've posted before that I used to work for a limo company when I was just out of high school. The owner was a pig of a man and used to do some pretty disgusting things (DEFINITELY sexual harassment material), BUT he is a good friend of my parents' from High School. I never said anything to my parents about the inappropriate comments, indecent proposals (for a raise!), etc... I just quit the job and moved on.
The guy was upset that I quit, and kept telling my parents that he wanted me back, and I just kept telling them no. I didn't want to explain the perversion in this man's head. Eventually, they let it go.
The guy's Mom died on Tuesday, and the wake is today only. I knew her minimally, but from what I DID know, she was a sweetheart. My parents are definitely going to the wake- they've known her for 40 years, and they expect me to go too.
I REALLY don't want to see this guy! And the worst part is that Rich has class tonight, and doesn't get home until 10ish, so I'd have to go without him.
What do you think? Just go, pay some respect, stay a few minutes and leave?
The wake starts at 2 - I could go for 15 minutes or so BEFORE I have to be at work...is that appropriate? Or should the first viewing be for family, only?
I'm sorry, I haven't experienced much death in my life, and I'm not really sure of the etiquette.
Thanks

Re: Dreading tonight.
If you really disliked him..I would not go. But if you feel better just going for a few minutes then show up & then leave. IMO

Re: Dreading tonight.
Avoid the first viewing, it's more family-less people, which means you'll have more direct contact with him... go for 15-20 minutes tonight...then duck out in the crowd...

I think you should go. I understand you don't want to see this guy but I think it's pretty safe to say you won't have to endure any perversion being that he is grieving the death of his mother right now. I think you should pay your respects and leave as quickly as possible. Stay with your parents when you relay your condolenscences to him, make it brief and move on quickly.

If you are going for your parents, this is what I would do, and go at night, because it will be more crowded. You may not even have to talk to the guy.

Re: Dreading tonight.
Thank you - thats what I thought. (about the night viewing being better.)

Like I said, I've been fortunate enough to not have to deal with much death - and virtually NO death of those close to me....so I'm not 100% sure how things work.
Thanks again
