BF’s bday

My BF’s bday is tomorrow. He treated me so well on my bday (it was my 40th). This isn’t a special milestone bday for him. He’s coming by in the evening and staying the rest of the week.

I asked him what he wanted to do and he said just cuddle on the couch and watch TV with the cats. He loves bacon, so I offered to make some BLTs, but he said he doesn’t want to eat. He just wants me to serve him his beers.

I want to do something special and cheap. We have a Post-it tradition where we leave nice notes for each other in secret places every morning. I was thinking of doing a Post-it trail around the apartment.

For his last bday, I met him at the train station before he left for his train (just met him at that time last year and he lives 2 hours away).

So any cheap suggestions (aside from the obvious bday BJ )?

Cake, balloons, sensual massage, beer, and tell him he is king for the day. Do what he wants.

Just serve him beer like he asked. Men are not that complicated.

I concur... Chat Icon

If you over analyze what you *think* he'll want, you'll most likely miss the target, and he won't be as happy as if you just did the simple things that he suggested.

DW asks me what I want for Father's Day, b-day, etc. It's usually not very much, and when I get just some simple grilled meat, some wine, and DC manage to behave most of the day, I'm ecstatic. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree, they really are simple creatures, lol! Maybe you can get a special beer stein that he could use tomorrow? And I'd do a birthday cake, because I think everyone should have a cake on their bday!

Re: BF’s bday

OK, the massage is something he would like.

How do you float a candle in a beer? Chat Icon I also have macarons that he enjoyed the other day, so I can stick a candle in that, too.

It’s just that he always goes above and beyond with me all the time. He’s a bit of a romantic, and I’m not so much. It’s hard to explain. There have been so many things that he always does that I wish I could have thought of first. I kind of beat him with our Valentine’s Day painting of boxes for our post-its and a love book I ordered online for our first anniversary.

I don’t even have a card!

I think floating a candle in a beer is something he would love. Any tips?

He’s not a cake person nor a dessert person.

Most tea light candles float on their own, and they are short enough to not tip over.

Good idea about the tea lights! That’s what I’ll do.

Re: BF’s bday

i think the way the conversation is going sounds great.

a massage
a candle in his beer lol (i love this idea)
a few sweets to commemorate the day

sounds like this is exactly what would make him happy.

as much as i try to over think gifts for men, it always comes back to something super simple.

have fun!

I’ll have to play around with the tea light in beer tonight, so that it works tomorrow. At least I’ll have some fun doing it Chat Icon

He doesn’t use Steins either; I wish he did. He’s a picky Bavarian and just drinks what beer there is. He’ll only have one or two, but it needs to be Bavarian Chat Icon .

Re: BF’s bday

OK I have it all planned out. Thank you to everyone here for your suggestions.

I got some Post-its to be posted.

I’ll see if he is hungry before he comes here and I can just cook up his tray of bacon (he cannot resist bacon; I think I even have some American bacon from the commissary in my fridge— the bacon is different here). He is a bit addicted to American bacon.

I have the tea light ready for the beer. I haven’t tried it out tonight as I didn’t feel like drinking a beer, but I’ll play around with it tomorrow. He will love that idea!

And the rest is history.

We don’t really do gifts. We believe in experiences. I’ll probably make him a homemade card.

And, of course, I have the beer chilled for him.

I know it sounds so silly, I’m sorry! He just doesn’t really express what he wants exactly, but he gets really wowed at certain things. I sent him a message at midnight for his bday, and he was just so thankful. I just like to keep that wow factor up.
