Has anyone tried Feliway to control these kinds of cat behaviors? I haven't but am considering it for my nervous pooping, excessive meower. Reviews are mixed online
I swear by Feliway, but it seems to only work with certain cats. It works with my oldest, Phoebe, and she just rolls around when it’s plugged in. It’s worth a try. She just had a seizure/stroke (she’s been checked out by the vet), so I’m thinking about getting some more.
I don’t have it plugged in right now (too much $$$), but I use it when I need to.
I’m not sure how many cats you have. I find you can get natural pheromones from their cheeks.
What is your exact problem that you need help with? It took me years to find out that one cat just didn’t like a certain litter. I guess it felt too harsh on her little paws.
She leaves little poops in her bed and the rug around the bed, and she meows and caterwauls all through the night. Scratching her helps but she doesn't let anyone hold her and she won't like, sit on your lap or lay next to you. I'm getting no sleep! She's a rescue cat who's been with us for several months and I think she's still traumatized by her previous life. She's also stone deaf. I thought Feliway might comfort her.
Sounds like something about the liter box is upsetting her. Maybe it's the type of liter? Is it not clean to her standards? I know some cats that freak out if the box isn't scooped constantly. With our old cat, she would take her poops out of the box and leave them for us to find to show us she was unhappy with the state of her box!
ITA. I would definitely try different litters . Also make sure you clean it out as soon as possible after the cat uses the box. Cats are clean animals, they do not like to be dirty and they won't use a dirty box. Obviously there are times , like when you are not home, you can't clean the box. My cat will poop on floor also, but only when I didn't get a chance to empty his box from the last time he used it! he doesn't care that I work and am not home 9 hours of the day, lol
She's usually good about that. In fact, she will walk me over to the litter box and vocalize if she wants it cleaned out. We clean poop as soon as it appears (she only poops when we're home, lol) and pee once a day. The nighttime caterwauling has become out of control though. Because she's deaf she has no idea how loud she is. You can hear it from the street with the doors closed.

It (Feliway) is worth a try. I’ve actually never had to deal with that, really. Perhaps her litter box is not in a happy place?
I’ve been thinking about this more. She is meowing for a reason. I really think it is the litter box and the litter. I, unfortunately, have a cat that sharts sometimes (oh god, this makes my home sound like a smelly home, but I clean it up all the time; I’m very tidy, yet I do not have a cleaning person).
Do you use perfumed litter? Cats don’t like that. Is it soft for the paws? Is the litter box in an easy location? How many litter boxes do you have? Do you have high places for the cat to jump up and feel safe?

Yes, it's the Fresh Step with Febreze. It doesn't stick at all in her paws. I never thought of the scent though. It's an easily accessible location but it's chilly there. Just one litter box. We have high places but she can't jump because she's quite fat. She was severely obese when we got her from the shelter. Maybe that's why? She wants to get up somewhere and she can't?

My advice is to first try a litter (without Febreeze). The chilly temperature doesn’t really make a difference, imo. Try litter without any scent.
Next, I would get a cat tower she can climb on. Make it accessible for her (lots of easy ways to get to it, i.e windowsills etc.)
Does your cat have a microchip? You can get a great cat feeder that uses microchips to make sure her weight is in check.
Try the unscented litter first before you spend too much money.
It isn’t about if the litter sticks in their paws. It’s about how the litter feels on their paws. My boys are not picky (then again they are boys, so whatever.) But my girl cat she’s such a princess. I love all cats, but male cats are so much easier.

Re: My cat is a traitor
Quincy is super cute.
Cats are impossible to figure out. When we got Tara almost five years ago, she hid in our crawl basement. DH went in and was able to pet her. After they spent some time together, he attempted to take her out. She went nuts, scratched him to bits. He had blood up both arms and one of her claws punctured his thumb. By the next day most of his hand swelled up and he had to go to urgent care.
Want to guess who Tara loves best? (And he loves her just as much.)

Ugh, I hate when they scratch. I have way too many scars from living with cats my whole life.
I’m so glad to hear that Tara love your DH like that after hearing about the crawl space incident.
How are your other two cats settling in?

They are doing ok. We've opened the door to their space and they venture out a bit. To be honest our younger dog Pixie is being meaner than Tara. And they know each other- my mom used to watch our dogs when we went away and they often came with us on holidays. Maybe because they are on Pixie's turf now? But we are making slow and steady progress, with the occasional skirmish. Thanks for asking!

Cats are superior to dogs, IMHO. They (cats vs. dogs) eventually work it out. Dogs realize that cats have claws, lol.

this is funny!
especially the peeing on the EX lol
I remember Ex and I going to a cat therapist (yes, they exist here), and I said, well, I think ex is the problem. The therapist was like what? It’s all clear to me now. Quincy only peed on him.
Here’s a cute pic for you all to enjoy. I’ll be running to give more treats before SO get home in 2 hours.
