Old Pilgrim Psych building
Soon it will be a shopping center and condos called Heartland. It’s all approved and everyone is fighting it like crazy because it’s going to add a bunch of students to brentwood. None of the surrounding towns want it built but it was approved.

My DH purposely drives through it for a shortcut...I have always been creeped out by it. An old coworker hung himself in there so I hate it even more since then.

I drove through on the way to the outlets once. Super creepy. My sister takes that way all the time and isn't bothered by it at all. Not sure how much truth there is to it, but someone told me once that some of the old patients hang out in the area cause they have no where else to go. I thought it's been closed for a while, so I didn't think the patients would still be alive 
In my younger days, I had a lot of friends that considered themselves "urban explorers", so I went inside Kings Park with them once. Super scary especially once it got dark

My husband always takes us through there for a shortcut when heading to places out there. I haven't been there at night but during the day it was okay.

There are still some buildings open in there for inpatient and outpatient psychiatric treatment. I also know someone that lived in Phoenix House in Pilgrim State for drugs.

Yes, absolutely not weird or creepy in my opinion. There are still treatment programs at Pilgrim. KP Psychiatric is closed.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. I knew part of it was open as a rehab for drugs/alcohol (because I have family that was treated there), I just thought they stopped treating psychiatric patients a long time ago.

If i drove theough with my husband and knew what it was beforehand maybe i wouldnt have been as freaked out. Going through alone with kids not knowing exactly where i was and what could be hiding in any of those buildings was scary.

It’s horrible. The Town doesn’t care though even though there hasn’t been any support at the meetings. It was denied for years, then all of a sudden approved. The whole project I believe has a 30 year turnaround time.

DH & I were driving around one day recently & somehow ended up on the property of the one in Kings Park... it seemed really deserted... not so much creepy, more like where the heck are we?! I had to check maps on my phone. I have no desire to explore it!

I guess back in the day, Long Island was considered the place you ship all the mentally ill out to.
