Keeping Phone Number When Moving
Hi. We'll be moving in mid April. Does anyone know if we can keep our home phone number, but just change the area code? Like change it to 516-123-4567 from 631-123-4567?
I know you can bring your complete number with you, but I just want to change the area code.

I guess it depends on if someone already has that number. I've moved many times (different states) and keep the same number, but I also keep the same area code.

I'd rather change the area code to the correct one for the area because then people may think it's a cell number. If someone lives in Nassau and they give me a 631 number, I'm assuming it's a cell, not a landline.

Chances are slim that number would be available. More likely they will just give you a few options for a new number and you'll pick a new local number.
