Trackers for kids?
Anyone have any experience with some type of GPS tracker for their kids?
I'm thinking something like a wrist band or a necklace or something.
Something that works like iPhone's "Find Friends" or "Find my iPhone"
I know a family with an autistic kid and he actually opened the front door and went out of the house when the mom was washing dishes. Luckily he just went outside and started ringing the doorbell.
Thanks

My son has a Gizmo Gadget that we got thru Verizon Wireless. It's $150 for the newer model and $5 a month added to your wireless plan. Most wireless companies have some sort of watch now. It allows me to call and text my son. He can make and receive calls and texts to ten numbers that I approve. If he doesn't answer the phone after a certain amount of rings it auto answers and I can hear what's going on for up to 1 minute. It also allows you to track them thru an app but it is not as fast as find my phone. It takes a minute or two to locate them and then it shows you their exact location. I love it, my son uses it when he rides his bike around the neighborhood or walks home from school and it gives me a lot of peace of mind.

Actually not free....you have to buy it. Suffolk county PD has Project Lifesaver
www.suffolkcountyny.gov/sheriff/CommunityPrograms/ProjectLifesaver.aspx
Medicaid does reimburse for the cost of the tracker. If the child has Autism and doesn't have Medicaid, the mom should look into it. If income is too high, they can get the Medicaid Waiver. Medicaid is required for services as they age out of school.

oh, i like this.
i don't have anything meaningful to add... just that when my son was about 11, i got him the verizon migo. things have obviously changed since then.
glad that the boy is ok. we should look into something like this for SO's mom. she likes to tell me to get out of her way because she's going "home." and when she says home, she means the house she grew up in... back in Georgia; we're in California.

Trackers for kids?
I second project lifesaver I haven't been using them as my Simon won't let anything on the body, so no necklace or wristlet or bracelet , I think there maybe a monthly fee for gps but I haven't done my research on it so I may be wrong
It's incredibly hard because of th behavioural issues..

My son has autism. Many autism parents use a product called “Angelsense”. It’s not cheap but worth it for peace of mind. I personally know 3 families that use it. We are getting it for my son as he is starting kindergarten in the fall.

Project lifesaver and Angelsense are both good.
As a quick alternative Tile can be purchased from amazon. I have attached it to a child’s shoe laces. One of my students parents sewed a pocket into an undershirt to hold it.
Elopement is very scary. Good luck to your friend.
