My poor DD
I posted last Saturday that my DD (she will be 3 in March) had not been acting herself. No fever, but on and off complaints of headache and a sore throat, and a mild cough with runny nose. Took her to PM pediatrics last Sunday, and they said it was just a cold. Rapid flu test was negative. She goes to a toddler program on Monday & Wednesday mornings. Kept her home on Monday, she seemed ok. Not overly cranky, just the same cold symptoms. Sent her to school on Wednesday. Last night, the headache complaints were back. She woke up screaming at 11 pm. Today she was tired, a little cranky. She stayed home with DH while I took the other kids to run errands. Just before bed, she spikes a temp of 103 and she has a rash! We didn't want to take her out in the snow to PM peds, and the temp did come down with Motrin. So we will take her when they open at 10 tomorrow. But, now I am really concerned. She has been not right since last Thursday, that is over a week. Now she spikes a fever and gets a rash? I wonder if they could be related? Or 2 separate illnesses, she got back to back. I know we will find out tomorrow, just wondering if these symptoms sound familiar to anyone?

Re: My poor DD
Could be coxsaxkie. Flu doesn’t usually result in a rash. My friends 3 year old twins just came down with coxsackie. It’s running through their daycare. They both have fevers and rashes. Hope your dd feels better!!!

Re: My poor DD
Maybe scarlet fever
Did she have a strep test?
The flu rapid test isn't 100% accurate (nor is the strep).

Re: My poor DD
Sounds like Strep. Coxsackie isn't around right now I don't think.

My poor DD
Thank you, ladies. We went to PM peds this morning, and it is Scarlet fever. She is on antibiotics. She is so sick, I have never seen any of my kids this sick- even when they have had the flu. Her fever spikes as high as 104 until I give the Motrin, we have cold compresses on her forehead, she doesn't want to lift her head off the couch. It is also a battle getting her to drink anything because her throat is so raw. I am worried about dehydration. This should be a long couple of days.

Aww, poor baby. Reading your first post made me think of dd's first illness last month but the rash came as she was getting better (wasn't roseola bc the fever was still coming back then). Her next illness she spiked as high as 104.7 but thankfully the high fevers were short lived. It's so scary though. My ped just said as long as they were acting appropriate that was more important than the number. When my kids won't drink I use a medicine syringe to give them fluids however often they'll tolerate. Sometimes with Pedialyte and other times just water. Maybe the Pedialyte pops will soothe her throat a little? So sorry and I hope she gets better quickly.

Re: My poor DD
How about ice pops? They are soothing to the throat, might help cool her down, and will get some fluids in her
