Why we can't have nice to things... A work rant
My company set up a coffee bar. A nice machine, plenty of sugar, creamers, you name it. In the email they said "the bar will be stocked so no need to take stuff" well today we go and all the creamers are gone. Gone. Nothing left. People just take the stuff and hoard it.
Please Post your work rants

Why we can't have nice to things... A work rant
I no longer have work rants because my new office is awesome.
But I had to call HR at my old job today because I've been gone for over 2 months and still haven't gotten paid for my vacation time. They told me I wasn't a priority and wouldn't even look my information up. If I weren't at work I would have gone ballistic. It just reminded me why I left and made me grateful to no longer be surrounded by lazy, useless, stupid people.

I just want windows that actually open in my teeny tiny office . Such stagnant air. No wonder I’m always sick.

Re: Why we can't have nice to things... A work rant
i feel the OP's pain about the coffee. when i lived in NJ, the company i worked for had a fancy keurig installed and they had monthly deliveries of all the fancy coffees, teas, hot chocolates, creamers... you name it. without fail, the day AFTER delivery, the break room was empty of those things. people would hoard them in their desk.
so... when we had company, the HR lady would LITERALLY walk around asking people to share their stash so we could provide coffee or tea to someone who was visiting our location.
now... i hate the kitchenette that's within the office and the wonderful co-workers who love to cook. there's a skillet and one person cooks her breakfast... as in bacon and eggs. makes the whole place stink like burnt butter and burnt bacon. then, there's the guy who wants to be healthy and re-heats FISH at least twice a week. my favorite has to be the guy who thinks that reheating old broccoli is a good idea.
i complain and nothing. so, i'm moving to another office.

Omg nothing worse than the smell of reheated fish in the microwave I Actually did that once It was the day after the super bowl maybe 15 years ago. I was 23 and didn't know - all I wanted was the awesome stuffed filet of sole my dad made the night before ("ehhhhhh...nobody comes to my house to eat sandwiches") and I stunk up the entire first floor
I felt so so bad But it was really good lol
Never ever again
At my work (same place!) there's a hoarder. Literally a hoarder. Takes packages of wipes paper towels sporks leftover sugar packets from when someone brings in coffee- you name it. Frustrating

I have a coworker who heats up sardines at least once a week in the microwave. It reeks.
I share my office with a bathroom. I know all the people who literally kill the bathroom on a daily basis.
Another coworker and I work oppsite shifts. She works my shift with me once in a while. Turns off all the lights and opens up all the windows, so I get to sit in the office freezing in multiple layers, hurting my eyes.
One is a hoarder and conserves energy.

I have an a$$hole coworker who puts pizza (or any food) directly on the rack in the toaster oven. The entire building then smells like burnt food. F'n moron is too dumb/lazy to use the tray.

We once had to all evacuate the damn builiding because someone did that. It smoked so bad it set off the smoke alarms and once they go off the whole building has to evacuate and wait for the FD to clear the building. It was about 95 degrees out and humid too that day and we were out there for like 30 min or more!

Why we can't have nice to things... A work rant
I used to oversee the break/lunch room at work. I can't even tell you how many people left their rotten food in the fridge for weeks at a time... I started posting a fridge clean out warning... thy didn't care. I threw out lunch bags and everything. People are so gross. I also hung a huge sign on the microwave: NO FISH. Thank God they followed that and went to the cafeteria to heat up their fish if they had to. Don't even get me started on the burnt popcorn.
Bathrooms: why did women feel the need to steal sanitary supplies from a locked bathroom?

Why we can't have nice to things... A work rant
This isn't a *rant*, per se, but an OMG sort of thing.
There is a person in my office that is completely responsible for all admissions into the college. She's older (maybe mid-50s) and does *everything* on paper. We're looking at moving to an electronic system that will do everything for us (admissions, records, financial aid, etc). However, anything related to computers, and she's completely lost.
We just got access to computer software to control the building security (we assign the fobs to our user and monitor if any issues). The only things we can do are 1) add new user, 2) delete user, 3) assign or delete a fob, or 4) run pre-program reports. She's been trying to figure it out all morning - asking me to show her 3 times how it works (and it's all really simple).
I'm so curious to see how she's going to handle moving the admissions process to an electronic format when there are *so* many things that she'll have to keep track of! It's going to blow her mind! I bet she ends up getting frustrated and goes back to using paper - which is ridiculous b/c she spends a large amount of time taking phone calls from students wanting to know where they are in the admissions process and what paperwork is still needed.

Re: Why we can't have nice to things... A work rant
When did it become acceptable to walk into someone's office when the door is closed without being told "Come in"? It's happened to me twice in the last month. My door is always open unless I'm gone or eating lunch - yet people still think it's ok to just walk in.
Additionally, the dumba$$ that walked into my office while I was eating today....... she had a check and wanted to give it to me. I told her the check needed to go to the boss. She looked at me confused and I explained that until the new hire is up to speed, the director is taking the money. She still looked confused and I said to just put it in the director's mailbox. More hemming and hawing, and I said "You can give it to me but I'm just going to put it in the director's mailbox." She threw it down on my desk and took off - and didn't even bother to close my door again!
