Reasonable movie theaters
Happy New Year! I've been wanting to take my DC to their 1st movie for a while now, but the idea of possibly dropping $40 + for 4 of us to go and not making it through the whole movie turns my stomach. I know there used to be a discount theater in West Babylon a few years ago but has since closed down. Does anyone else know of any reasonable theaters in Suffolk or Nassau? I tried googling but all I could find was Montauk and I'm def not driving out there.
Thank you!

Reasonable movie theaters
many in Nassua, Bellmore, Merrick, Rosyln all have family owned theaters and are cheaper. I believe westbury on post ave does too. Many theaters have wacky Tuesday where movies are $5-6 all day. If you can go before noon their cheaper or before 5. I try and use the theaters mentioned above. Plus, I like the fact its family owned. Keeps the $$ local

Sayville. It's musty and old and the seats aren't comfy but it's cheap

Re: Reasonable movie theaters
Port Jeff is dirt cheap....we go there all the time. $6 for a matinee The popcorn and snacks deals are like 1/3 of the price at the chain theaters.

Reasonable movie theaters
Also, I'm pretty sure all theaters will give you your money back if you leave before the movie is half over, maybe even further than that. We got a refund when my kids demanded to leave 20 minutes into The Good Dinosaur. I also knew an older adult couple who walked out of a movie because it was too graphic for them and they got their money back. Just a thought if your child winds up not making it through.
eta- Come to think of it, we didn't get our money back but they did give us vouchers for another movie, which was fine.

Really? That is a strange policy! What theater was this? I can't imagine them giving refunds to everyone who have kids that can't sit for a movie, or to people that didn't like it.

Apparently you can. DH and I walked out of a theater once because a rat was running under our feet (the movie hadn't started) but when he went to get our money back the woman said they refund everyone, rats or no rats.
As you can guess, I've never gone to that movie theater ever again.

Re: Reasonable movie theaters
Island 16 gave us our money back when DS was 2.5 and wouldn't sit through the first 20 mins of a movie. My mistake was getting there early and making him sit through the previews. We prob sat for almost 45 mins at that point.
We tried again recently at Port Jeff cinema. The tickets were so cheap and the guy was so nice (he didn't charge us at all for DS). We had to leave again before it was over, but DS almost made it through the entire movie this time. They might have refunded me but it was so inexpensive, I wouldn't have even asked ($12 for me and DH).

I am not familiar with discount theaters but if you go during the week or a morning show, some theaters are cheaper. Costco and AAA sell tickets that are cheaper than when you buy at the theater. Fandango has buy one get one free tickets sometimes. AT&T also has bogo free for Tuesday shows. I have seen coupons on Groupon. There is movie pass for $10 a month but it may not be worth it for you.

Reasonable movie theaters
Port Jeff is great! Cheap and good popcorn! Not fancy, regular old school movie none of the fancy seats that recline etc. I also heard seafood is pretty cheap
Also, as another poster mentioned, if you are a Costco member you can get discounted tickets to some theaters

Re: Reasonable movie theaters
Huntington discounts the first show on the weekend. I think it's 6.50. It's the only way I take my kids to the movies. Plus the times usually work perfect to . have lunch out after.

The one with my kids was some theater in Nassau. I don't know exactly which, but it was part of a chain of theaters so we got vouchers to go to any of their locations.
The other couple I mentioned I believe was at Farmingdale UA. I think it's a pretty standard practice. I doubt all that many people get up and walk out of movies before they're half way over.
