burner phone?
How do burner phones work? Do I just buy one with a certain amount of minutes and refill when it's empty?
I don't want to buy DS a phone b/c I think he's too young right now, but I want a phone he can use for emergencies at the house. I've been paying for a land line that has the ringer turned off, and it seems like a waste of money (especially since I think I'm going to dump cable soon and it's part of a package). We *never* use the land line and no one knows the number (the ringer is turned off b/c the only calls are from telemarketers).
I was thinking I could get a cheap burner phone and have it at the house for an emergency. I would pre-program my number and STBX's number. Any other suggestions (other than getting DS a cell phone of his own)?

Yes burner phones are pretty much that prepaid that you pay by the minute or monthly service. companies have a min amount you need to refill either monthly or yearly to keep the number going. I would also check your cellphone plan and see if it’s cheaper to add a line to your plan

I suppose by the standard I use a burner phone. I have tracfone prepaid. I paid $99 for the phone and 1350 minutes, 1350 text and 1.5 GB data. That was good for an entire year. And at the end of the year, I bought another $99 deal to renew the plan. I have been using it for 3 years now. I love it. NO monthly bills. And adding text or data is super affordable. $10 for 1000 texts. $5 for 1GB data. My husband and I both use them and they run on the verizon network.

Re: burner phone?
I had a tracfone for years just for calls and texts. I'd get the yearly plan for $99 and just buy more minutes if I needed it. Worked great.
