Dog Eating Cat Poop

Please don't move..

I adopted my shih-tzu in August. My neighbor has a bunch of feral cats that never really bothered me but now, they constantly poop in my yard. I'm not sure if they used to and I never noticed because I didn't have a dog or if having a dog has attracted them to do it more.. but I'm getting so frustrated. They not only poop everywhere, they bury it in the leaves and apparently, my dog loves to eat it. I try to pick it up whenever I see it but it's getting so frustrating have to pick up after my own pet and these random 5 cats too. Not only that, I've stepped in it a few times (this morning being one of them) and it's so smelly and gross!

I'm working on training my baby to "Leave It" but is there anything I can do to deter these cats from pooping in my yard to begin with?

I don't have any experience, but I know family members have used natural cat deterrents- whether something you can buy or just plants that you put in your garden. I think citronella is one.

Yes. Cats don't like certain smells like citrus, and you can get sprays that are cat deterrents. Maybe you can try that.

Ugh do we live on the same block?! My neighbor (renter) is the same. Had like 30 cats living on the side of the house pooping all over my yard breaking stuff, going in my yard. I told her landlord I would report her to the SCPA due to unsanitary and unsafe living of the cats the woman moved out 2 weeks later. I didn’t find any natural deterants though other than letting my dog out on a leash

Re: Dog Eating Cat Poop

This will be difficult. Some dogs love cat poop or any animal poop....my dog snacks on rabbit poop and it's hard to stop her. Please make sure your dog is on a monthly dewormer, talk to your vet. Your dog, or you, could get a parasite like that. I don't think there is too much you can do to stop them from coming over though. I wish I had a suggestion but I don't...

They were probably doing it all along but you never went out so you never noticed.

Thanks! I'll talk to my vet about the dewormer. I mentioned it at my last appointment and he said it's not unusual but to just try to swat her away when I see it. It's so frustrating!

I'm going to try this! Hoping maybe the cold weather keeps them closer to home for a bit. LOL. ugh. My bf mentioned muzzling her when she goes out but I feel so cruel doing that!
