People who use Miles
I know people who use miles for everything. I wonder -- how do you earn so many miles??? I seem to spend a fortune left and right but my miles never add up to anything.
What am i doing wrong? Is there a certain card i should use?

We charge everything we can and then pay off the bills to earn more miles. We also sign up when the bonuses are high.
We have two points cards - Delta and Starwood Amex. We've done better with the Starwood Amex though since we earn extra points for things here and there. We just recently got the Delta one and I feel that the amount of points you need to use for travel are a lot higher.

It's funny; I always thought the same until I had miles to use of my own.
For starters; I had opened up a Delta Amex; and they gave me a ton of points just for opening it. Then last year DH and I went away and the flight delayed for hours on end for no given reason. They compensated us with a $100 GC each and more reward points.
I just booked a trip using our points that came to $22. It normally would have been about $600 RT. So I'm a happy Delta Mile user.

Another Delta Amex user here. The sign up bonus was like 80K miles, we put everything on the card, and you also get a free companion certificate each year along with bonus miles. Plus his company flies Delta exclusively, so he keeps all those miles and they double or something with Platinum status. Same with Marriott. Some companies don't let you keep your miles when you travel, so we are fortunate! We book so much travel for free!

We have a ton of miles from my husbands old corporate account at his last job. Everything in the company was charged it to it and they let us keep it. It was about 700k miles. I think a lot of people who have a lot of miles get it thru a corporate card.

We have delta but I can't even figure out how to get my points balance. I wanted to use them for spring break but I need like 550k points

I got rid of my miles card and went to cash back after I learned that you have to be a big spender on your credit card and also travel enough (buy airline tickets with the card) to get more miles.

Yeah I don't ever get enough to even get a plane ticket.
I'm probably doing something wrong, who knows.
I prefer cash back anyway

dh is a point/miles hoarder. hes used miles maybe twice in 15 yrs. its so annoying

I use tof travel frequently for work. That's how you really rack them up. Especially of you get points for buying the tickets aND miles for the flight.

That seems excessive unless you are bringing 10 people. Make sure you are not selecting "Delta One", which is first class. Sometimes it defaults to that.

I got a United mileage card when I was traveling to Europe a couple of times and ended up getting enough points (between the actual travel and sign-up bonus offers) for a free flight to/from Miami. Since then, I haven't racked up enough points for anything. Lol.

I have the Jetblue mastercard and I don't spend a ton on the card, but I usually always earn enough miles for at least a one way ticket. We are going to Jamaica next week and I had enough points for my roundtrip ticket and one way for my daughter's ticket.
We also have a Chase sapphire card which I'm sure has a ton of points on it, but my husband is also a points hoarder and never wants to use them...
