beware Optimum charges $80.00 to make a home visit
unless the issue is on the outside of the home, in that case you might not get charged.
In all the years I've been a customer I"ve never been charged for a visit.
When you sign the tablet all you see is a signature NOT what the bill looks like and when you ask the tech, they say they dint know of any charge.
FYI, thirty days after they install something such as wires that lead to the box is NOW considered your equipment and you own it, therefore they are not responsible and you get charge $80.00, such Bull Crap, anything to charge a customer. I never know this 30 policy.
They also want customer to BUY a protection plan??? never heard of this before either,Im sooo pissed
When you call they insist its a charge that cannot be removed...

Re: beware Optimum charges $80.00 to make a home visit
sorry you found this out the hard way!!
we know this to be true of Verizon Fios also. we were on the phone with them once about an issue and they told us that if they send a tech it's $90 if its an issue inside the walls. We did not have them come. It's such a rip off. They should've told you there was a charge. I'd take it up with your Assembly person or city council. they may be able to help in this situation.

Re: beware Optimum charges $80.00 to make a home visit
I don't think this is unrealistic. Wiring inside the house is and should be the homeowners responsibility. Maybe it didn't used to be this way but it is now. If I build a house, it is my responsibility to make sure the proper wiring is ran inside the house. Optimum isn't going to do this.
Lets say you accidently cut a wire in your house. Or you have an open splitter somewhere because you moved or changed some cables. Why should Optimum have to pay resources to fix this issue?
From what I know if they have to work on the inside of the house but they find that it's their equipment that's faulty they won't charge you.

Re: beware Optimum charges $80.00 to make a home visit
I think Optimum is SO shady with their billing practices. They work in random charges, offer you one deal without telling you that it somehow negates another deal you already have with them, and yes, they charge for visits even when it's something they need to do on your wire. They had to "turn my cable back on at the wire" and I got billed. I can't stand them.

So if the box is NOW considered our property; that would mean they are dropping the monthly rental fees for equipment?

The box is still theirs, and you are still leasing it. Any wires that are inside your house are considered yours, even if they installed the wires.

Re: beware Optimum charges $80.00 to make a home visit
They've always told me that I'd be responsible for a service call fee if the problem wasn't due to their equipment. One time they found an issue with the splitter in the basement, but the last technician was the one that installed it. So, the guy fixed it without charging me. Which was nice because he could have.
Their billing is ridiculous though. I have a phone line I don't even need because canceling it would actually make my bill go up.
I've tried to call and complain about the monthly price (we're paying over $250 a month and don't even have all the channels) and they don't budge. I hate them.

I am learning to use the NY state Atty office and EVERYONE should start callling to complain
My dad had the phone issues, he asked to drop that service they said it will cost more, he said I'm calling the NYS office, like I told him to. They didnt drop the phone but gave him few years of Free DVD saving him hundreds.

People HAVE to start saying this and actually calling the NYS ATTY generals office to start putting issues and complaints on file.
That office will contact the company on your behave, most issues get resolved bc the company does not want to Atty Gen office contacting them

I've never been charged for a visit, I dont ever being told after 30 days you own the "wires needed for their equipment and its all ********
You can see what you are signing on the tablet, ex, fee which is misleading and in appropriate.

I has nothing to due with the wiring in my walls, it had to do with their wiring to their euipmentment, box, modem etc

Doesn't the equipment, box, modem that you have in your house get wired with some sort of wire that either goes through walls in your house, tacked to baseboards, or wired some other way?
I am curious what did it have to do with then? It's not like the boxes are wireless that only require power.
