Something you learned to do that was easier than you thought

I recently learned how to make fudge. I always figured it would be hard to make because it's so expensive when you buy it. It is by far one of the easiest deserts I have ever made.

What have you learned to do that was easier than you thought??? (edited to add....let's keep this clean lol)

By request: Fudge Recipe....
1.5 bags of chocolate chips
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 splash of vanilla

Put chocolate chips and milk in a saucepan on a medium to low flame. Stir continuously until it looks like icing. Turn flame off, add splash of vanilla. Mix. Put in loaf pan, muffin pan, whatever pan you want and put in refridge for 4 hours. THAT'S IT!

If you want different flavors, add those chips or toppings. For example: For caramel fudge, use 1 bag of chocolate chips and 1/2 bag of caramel chips. For rocky road, use all chocolate chips and add marshmallows and nuts. If you want to get really fancy, you can add toppings to the fudge while it's in the refridge but this is more for presentation than for taste.

WARNING: This makes A LOT of fudge.

Welding

It looks almost magical when you watch someone else taking pieces of metal and making them into one solid piece of metal.

I am by no means a "welder", but it's much easier than I thought to take two pieces of metal and weld them together, even if it isn't very pretty.

Same. I taught myself years ago and though I am not very crafty, I was surprised how easy it was once I got the knack.
Now, I'm not making anything complicated and nobody is buying my stuff, but I can totally make a blanket if I had to.
(Haven't done it in years thought so I might be a bit rusty!)

I learned how to knit. I took about 4 lessons. I've made sweaters, blankets (both for adult and children), ponchos, hats, scarves, mittens and socks.

I would love to learn to sew next......

Learning to fix things around the house like the vacuum cleaner or other appliances. I thought it would be much hard but now you can find everything online.

-cooking. I was so intimidated by sauce and meatballs. Now I think I've perfected them. Now I cook everything. It's my creative outlet.

-basic electrical work. I've changed every light fixture in my house including hanging a chandilier

-very basic plumbing. I've replaced pipes under sinks and installed a dishwasher and new faucets

-other basic handyman stuff. Painting, hanging pictures, declogging drains with snakes, etc. I'm a toolbelt diva
