More troops to Afghanistan....
I understand that the military that is trained to fight wars, and is actually on the ground in Afghanistan knows what is needed to fight the Taliban. However when the the guy in charge spent years complaining about the previous administration continuing the war, running his campaign on not continuing the war, and calling Hillary a "war-hawk", the hypocrisy is deafening.....
I've lost track, but other than putting Gorsuch on the SC, (which wasn't his decision anyway), he hasn't kept a single campaign promise, and has gone 180 degrees on many of his promises, actually....

Re: More troops to Afghanistan....
Obama said he was going to end the war in Afghanistan as well. After 17 years I think it is more of a mess over there than anyone could imagine. Obama had good intentions to end the war but when he was given all the details it wasn't possible. I think the same thing is happening with Trump. Anti Trump people will find fault that he isn't ending the war and give a pass to Obama. Personally I think it is overdue to get out of there. That said I don't have a clue what is happening, what it would take or what would happen after. Kudos to Trump for listening to those on the ground there. I pray he is successful in finishing that war and bringing our troops home. Sadly I thhink that region of the world is always going to be problematic for us.

Yup, yup and more yup. He has no true beliefs - just does and says whatever comes into his head in the moment and/or what he thinks "his " people want to hear

Re: More troops to Afghanistan....
I’ll probably stir the pot here but here’s my $0.02
There’s no “Winning” this war.
You can’t just pull everyone out and be a winner. Because the locals will lose heavily. The good we have done will unravel and we may find ourselves forced to go back. It will be as if all we’ve done was for nothing. The loss of life and the foothold we had will vanish and evaporate before our eyes. Those we help daily there will suffer the most. The innocent people whose daily lives have improved because of our presence will be threatened again.
Staying there isn’t an ideal option. We stay and we cause more hatred and we feed the rebels with weapons and tactics they didn’t’ have before. We feed their hate. We actually finance their war and give them a reason to fight and die. They will kill to watch us die. They don’t mind killing others to expel us. Their beliefs are stronger than our standing orders, especially as the whole world knows this war isn’t popular at home. We feed their anger, feed their fury, feed their reasons to continue to fight. Every small win is a victory for their belief.
Us being there is the whole reason they STARTED this. They wanted us there, they’ve already won. If we leave, we admit defeat and they win again, if we stay they get to chip away at us. To them they have destiny and god on their side. They have eternity.
Presidents will come and go. The one that pulls our troops out will be loved and hated respectively. It will be a bittersweet success. So much lost and nothing gained. They will always be a threat. There will always be a humanitarian need. Taliban knows that. Al Queda knows that. It’s their greatest weapon against us.
We can try to ignore it, like we did in the past and accept the deaths of our military (USS COLE for example) without response or we respond and the world follows us closely. I can’t help but wonder if setting four terrorists free was the wisest of choices, but here we are.
This isn’t a Trump/Obama/Bush/Clinton thing for me. It’s a world politics game of Risk scenario (or Game of War if you will) no one wins.

I have to say, I agree..that part of the world has been at war for years and unfortunately will be for years to come. Differences just cannot be settled plus now there are very active, very advanced terrorists aiding. It's such a shame because, of course, we have people on our own soil to help, as well as other countries...sometimes I know it sounds so dramatic, but I feel like there is so much bad and not a lot of hope.

Anti Trump people will find fault that he isn't ending the war and give a pass to Obama.
I think this is unfair. Plenty of people (including myself) have stated that they don't agree with everything Obama did. I personally supported most if not all of his domestic policy but had issues with much of his foreign policy.
Trump supporters (for the most part NOT the ones on here but IRL) on the other hand seem to support him no matter what, especially recently, with his erratic, bombastic behavior appealing to his base.

This post was started to find fault. "He isn't keeping any of his campaign promises". He is screwed either way. Had he come out and said that despite what his generals said he was keeping his promise to get out of Afghanistan , People would have gone nuts. Politicians (on both sides) say things to get elected. I think once they get all the facts and live with the red tape it isn't as easy as what they had promised. Trump made a good choice on this one. I do hopoe his plan has a way to get the area more stabilized so that we can bring most of our troops out of there. After 17 years I don't think this is feasible but one can hope. This me as will be here for many presidents to come.

Perhaps, but you're assuming the quoted poster wouldn't have said the same thing about Obama.
