Out of State Bridal Shower
Hi!
My mom and I are hosting a bridal shower for my sister, however she lives in California but wants her shower in her home town here in NY. This is her 2nd marriage; 1st marriage was a court wedding so she never had the whole wedding experience and she had a horrible marriage and divorce so we want to make it special. It will be small but we don't know what to do about the gifts, do we mention on the invite to ship the gifts to her home in Cali? is there different kind of registry? If it does get shipped what happens at the shower when people usually open gifts?
Any suggestions would be great! thanks!

Re: Out of State Bridal Shower
I think she would do a regular registry. They always have an option when you are buying the gifts to ship to you or to the bride's address that she provided when reigstering.
I would say that you might want to include a little note with the invites- like with the registry info- to please ship gifts to the bride's home as she is out of state. Something like that.
During the shower you just eat and drink and socialize. That would be a dream come TRUE for me as a guest. I can not STAND sitting through hours of the bride opening up mixing bowls and towels. Torture

A friend of mine recently registered with Amazon & said it was great...a lot of people had prime & used the free shipping to send it right to her house.

This sounds like a good idea. As a guest I would love the convenience of an Amazon registry. I think with most registries it can default to her home address so the gift will be shipped directly to CA. Not sure, but I'd check on that.

I actually just went through this for DH's cousin. She lives in FL and came up to NY for her shower. She registered at Macy's and Amazon. I shipped the gift directly to her. I'm sure you can indicate that on the invite somewhere. Some people still brought some little gifts, but there were the usual bridal shower games.

my sister registered at BBB and when i ordered her gift online i just had it shipped to her house. i would suggest either the note in the invite if she's doing a traditional registry or the Amazon registry.
some people will still bring small gifts and cards. she can decide if she wants to open at the shower.

I would suggest that people ship a gift to her at home.
You could have people bring a card with a recipe or a date night idea - I have seen this done at showers and then your sister could have something physical day of.

Have everyone ship ti her home and then bring a picture and make a board of the pictures.
And I would have a cocktail party type atmosphere rather than a traditional shower. I think people would have more fun.

my friend did this. Invites had the registry information and requested that gifts be sent to their home before the shower, and that they could bring a card with a pic of the item to the shower itself. It also had instructions for people who ordered online from their registry so they knew where to click to send to the registrant's address

THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS.
the slowest, worst part of any kind of shower is the gift opening. you lose a lot of people's attention during this time.
play another game, drink some more, tell great wedding stories, have the older ladies in the bunch give the bride the third degree about how long they'll have to wait for the baby shower... whatever!! have more fun!
