i havent been on disney but RC and they had a very small baby pool. We will not do a cruise until we are out of diapers. It was fun but sea days are all bout swimming. Sure there's other stuff but walking arond the pools and being hot you will want to swim.

Why is it that they don't allow swim diapers in cruise ship pools but resorts on land do?

Disney

here is what is says on their website

Does my child have to be toilet trained to use the pools?
A.
Yes. The U.S. Public Health Service requires that only children who are toilet trained are permitted to enter swimming pools and spas aboard cruise ships.

Even if your child isn’t toilet trained, he or she is welcome to enjoy the water play areas on board each ship while wearing a swim diaper. These areas include Nemo’s Reef on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, Nephews’ Splash Zone aboard the Disney Magic and Mickey’s Splash Zone aboard the Disney Wonder.

Please note: swim diapers are not permitted in hot tubs, spas or any Disney Cruise Line pools or waterslides, including the AquaDuck, AquaDunk and AquaLab.

My kids are 7 and 5 and barely used the pools - they aren't that big and are usually crowded. There is a cute toddler spray area - for toddlers only. And a spray park for all ages which they enjoyed more (and DS 1 liked the water slides).

The major downside though of going on a Disney Cruise with a child that isn't potty trained is that they can't use the kids club.

I guess b/c it's harder to clean the pools on a ship. The diaper are good but we still have had accidents with poop with them.

I do have to say that on our cruise the first day the non potty trained kids were in the baby pool. If they went in the big pools they got kicked out b/c you could see the diaper. After the second day, the parents just took off the diapers and enjoyed the big pools. I would not want to be the parent of the child that pooped in the pool lol

The no swim diaper thing is on all cruise ships. Disney does have a splash/spray area though. We are going on one next week with my 3 year old DS who is not potty trained. He won't care about the pool to be honest. I'm more concerned that he can't use the kids clubs. We tried potty training but he was withholding poop and it was more trouble than it was worth.

I did the Magic cruise in January. The pools were small and crowded. The kiddie pool wasnt, but they were really strict on our cruise with the no diaper thing, They have a blocked off area for younger kinds/babies for splash zones and a whole sprinkler area for all ages. My DD didnt like the pools so much so we spent a lot of time in the sprinkler area.

As for the kids club they told us flat out that the kids have to be potty trained to be unattended. You'd have to either stay with him or maybe you can make it pass off like he's trained and then just check in on him.

Other things to do are there's always character meet and greets somewhere. There's also some kids dance parties and stuff like that. There's movie theaters on the ship. they'll give you a schedule of all the events and what's going on and what part of the ship.

People put their bare butt, non-potty trained kids in a a pool meant for use by the whole ship?? Am I understanding that correctly???

That makes sense to me. We also go to a local pool that doesn't allow children in the main pool if they aren't toilet trained.

They should be fined.

Re: Disney

My 18 month old loved the splash area on the fantasy and that was more than enough for her, we didn't miss the pool at all for her. At least on the fanstasy, the cast members at the pools were VERY involved and diligent. Sure, maybe a non-trained three year old could get away with going diaper-free in the kiddie pool, but I'd imagine parents would be questioned if it was a diaperless baby in the pool!

We used the nursery ($9/hr, but well worth it for 2-3 hours a few days of the cruise). Dd loved it. They also had a wake up with Disney jr event in the mornings and open space toddler time in Andys Room once daily for a few hours. Also constant character meet and greets. She was never bored (nor was my 4.5 dd who only went to the kids club twice for an hour each).

I assume Disney cruises are more expensive than the same cruise on other brands.
Is it 50% more? double? triple?

The rules changed, they have to be potty trained AND 3 years old. I've been on the cruise when someone choked in the pool and water came out of their mouth (didn't see vomit), and they had to drain it, and refill it. Took forever, and it was annoying. I imagine potty accidents happen more often so they would be draining it all the time. Not to mention, swim diapers do not hold ANYTHING in at all. Maybe hard poop, but loose poop will just come right out, and pee doesn't get absorbed at all by those.

As for having fun without the pool...for sure. The pools are small and crowded like others have said. My kids LOVE the water roller coaster (Aquaduck), but don't swim in the pools a ton.

You can easily go online and see, it's probably almost double. But, they employ a ton of staff, and their service is outstanding. They are also the only cruise line that has scored 100 in their cleanliness ratings or something (I just read that). And that is probably because they have about 2,000 cast members on a cruise that holds 4,000 people.

They would probably say their 6 month old was trained.....

Also, anyone can go in the kids clubs during open house time, which happens at least once a day. So you can go in and play with him/her!
