Foreign transaction fees on credit card
Do most credit cards charge these? I am going on vacation and am going to use my card a lot. It looks like mostly travel cards waive the fee.

Re: Foreign transaction fees on credit card
I recently went through this when we went to Canada. I only have Chase cards. They charge a 3% foreign transaction fee. My DH has a Capital One card and they do not charge a fee, so we used that pretty much. I also believe American Express does not charge a fee.

Re: Foreign transaction fees on credit card
You have to check with each card. My amex did have a fee. When I first traveled internationally I opened a capital one card with no foreign transaction fee.

I've never paid a fee when traveling internationally with my AmEx.

I have a Chase and Citibank card. I have to call and find out. Didn't think of this.

Re: Foreign transaction fees on credit card
each card is different. you should contact your bank and every card you plan on using prior to your departure to let them know you wil be traveling. The last thing you need is them to put a block on your card(s).
I also use the ATM when im traveling and get local currency that way. Just enough for cabs or local street vendors. again, check with your bank for their fees. dh and i both have td. they refund him his fees but they dont refund mine. each account is different.

Foreign transaction fees on credit card
Some cards don't have transaction fees. Depends on the type of the card. With Chase, if you have the sapphire card there is no fee but they have other cards where they charge a fee. Check with your credit card companies. I would also give them your travel dates so they don't block your charges.

Re: Foreign transaction fees on credit card
When we travelled to Europe, we used a Capital One debit card that didn't charge a fee - you must have some type of account with them though.
