Long weekend in Chicago?
My brother will be in Chicago for one year, and I thought we'd take advantage and pay him a visit. We'd leave the kids home...
1) is Friday-Sunday reasonable to see some highlights? DH and I both work in schools with different calendars and we can't really take off more than just a Friday.Or is it not even worth it?
2) my brother will be there Aug-July. When is the best time/season to visit?
Tia!

Re: Long weekend in Chicago?
A weekend there should be fine to see a few things. I would go in months that aren't too cold or hot. So maybe fall or late spring? I was there for work in mid May one year and it was very nice

A weekend is enough. Def do not visit in winter.
The boat architecture tour is great. Def do that. Navy pier. Walk Michigan avenue Have deep dish pizza. Giordanos stuffed deep dish is our favorite.

Re: Long weekend in Chicago?
I've done it for 4 days for a conference. It's a big city... so you will miss things (but you can do a highlight tour).
The big highlights for us were the aquarium (which is really breath taking), millennium park with the "bean", and the pier waterfront (museums and food). We did an architectural boat tour and had an event at the willis tower... and another in Chinatown (wasn't crazy about this restaurant). We stayed right on Millenium Mile and walked everything with a 13 month old (and I was pregnant).
As for when to visit... we were there mid October which was cold (heavy jackets to winter coats). I'd go early fall or Summer and stay longer (or both).

We did a weekend and it was enough. Stayed by Michigan Ave. Went to Navy Pier, Wrigley Field, ate at both Giordanos and Gino's East for chicago pizza. We went in July and it was hot.

A weekend is enough.
I'd go in Sept/Oct or May/June if you can - they have longer colder winters.

I've been a few times and Sept/Oct has always been very nice weather.
I would definitely recommend the architectural boat tour - loved that!
Grant Park/Millenium Park and "the bean"
Willis Tower
Didn't care for Navy Pier - just a big tourist trap, but you can take a sail boat tour from there which is nice.
Hancock Tower (you can have drinks there - esp nice at sunset)
Walk Michigan Ave (lots of shopping) to the lake and then walk along the lake (or you can rent bikes near there and ride along the lake)
I love Chicago! Enjoy!
