If You Drive a Hybrid Please Come In

Hi,

I've had two in the past but for the last two years I went back to a non-hybrid. I'm debating switching back but I do notice the HOV lane more and more congested these days and don't know if it's worth it. I commute from Medford
In Suffolk County to Queens. For those of you who do a similar commute, think it's truly worth it anymore?

Thanks!

for the gas mileage and maintenance alone, a prius is definitely worth it. not sure about other hybrids, but prius' have been one of the most reliable and economical choices.

Thanks, I am aware of all that. I just want to know if others feel as I've observed for quite a while now that the HOV lane often moves similar to the other lanes.

I carpool from western suffolk to manhasset. On the way in HOV is great but I don't get on the LIE until about 8:40 so traffic is generally lighter. On the way home, I get on the LIE about 5:30. HOV is backed up terribly. It really makes no difference in my commute. Also, I notice a ton of people that are in the HOV lane when they are not supposed to be. If people followed the rules then I'm willing to bet HOV would be a bit better. Personally, I wouldn't get a hybrid just to drive in the HOV lane.

ETA: I find t he HOV opens up around exit 51. Not sure how it is after that.
