Anyone drive a hybrid?
Do you love it? Do you hate it?
What kind of driving do you usually do?

Re: Anyone drive a hybrid?
Toyota Prius Think it's great! Actually, a lot more roomier than I thought. I have two boys and there's plenty of room in the back for both carseats and space in the middle if we ever need 5 people in the car Gas mileage is great too I drive A LOT. Too daycare and work everyday (work is over 20 miles each way)
It's a good, practical car. Doesn't look bad either. B4 the prius I had an Infiniti EX so I wasn't too thrilled to go from that to the Prius. There's more room and gas is better.

Re: Anyone drive a hybrid?
I LOVE my Toyota Prius!
We're a little over halfway on our lease. When the lease is up, we're planning on getting another one. We looked at the Honda Insight and the Prius. Toyota offered us more features for the same price as the Honda. I'm so glad we went for the Prius b/c the Honda doesn't qualify for the Clean Pass to drive in the HOV lane, which ended up being important to us since we now use the LIE every day.
As for gas mileage, for everyday driving, we average 45 mpg. If we can coast on the highway and maintain a speed, we can get over 50. It also doesn't take more than 11 gallons of gas when empty (closer to 10). We fill up every other week.
Between the gas mileage and the HOV privileges, I can't rave about the Prius enough.

Re: Anyone drive a hybrid?
Is it worth it to get a Prius/hybrid if 90% of your driving is highway?
I currently drive a 2009 non hybrid Honda Civic, get's great fuel economy, fill up every other week sometimes every 2.5 weeks.
I drive 70+ miles a day, potentially more in the very near future.
I am trying to determine if a hybrid would be more practical AND have enough room for DH who is 6'2 280lbs and DD's convertible seat and all the other accoutrements

Re: Anyone drive a hybrid?
I just got a Prius.
I love it.
I can't believe I waited this long to get one. It costs about $35 to fill up.
I drive from Centereach to Queens everyday, about 110 miles.
Last week I was averaging 56 miles per GALLON!!!
It is amazing.
Also my 6'3 huge husband sits in it with no problem along with two carseats
ETA: I drive almost the entire length of the LIE HOV lane, then Cross Island and then get on the Belt which is usually stop and go.

DH and I drive very differently. When he drives, we get closer to 50mpg. With me, it's more like 45-46mpg. At my last fill up, it cost me $36.50 for a little over 9 gallons of gas and I had driven over 400 miles on that tank. I also have a Civic (an '02) and while we fill it up just as infrequently as the Prius, it also has a bigger gas tank. The backseat is quite roomy - DH and his friends went down to AC in it and 3 of his male friends sat in the backseat and said they had plenty of room.
If part of your highway driving includes the LIE, I think it's a no-brainer. The perk of being able to drive in the HOV w/o needing another passenger has been very beneficial.
They have now come out with a larger Prius which looks almost like a cross between a mini van and a hatchback and while it does get better gas mileage than a regular mini van (40mpg) it doesn't qualify for a Clean Pass.

Re: Anyone drive a hybrid?
I'm on my second Prius. I have a short commute a few days a week but I travel to clients at least once a week and it could be as much as 100 miles each way. The ability to go in the HOV lane has me sold on the Prius. I do much better with MPG on the highway than around town, I am usually around 50mpg. My 24 yr old son is really big and he fits in the front seat and the back seat. the trunk is really pretty huge too. I put 87,000 miles on my first prius in less than 3 years and I had absolutely no mechanical problems.

Re: Anyone drive a hybrid?
Well I live and work in CT so I don't have any HOV lanes/clean pass issues. Do you still think that that would make me a good candidate to get a Prius?
Which year/model Prius do you ladies drive?
Edited to ask:
How is the Prius in snow?

Re: Anyone drive a hybrid?
I love my Prius. It's a 2008. We were getting close to 50 MPG though we're now down to about 42-45 most of the time - more in the summer though. When we first got it I think we were more careful with the way we drove it and now we don't think about it as much.
I use it for work - 20 miles each way - sometimes more highway, sometimes more stop and go depending on which way I go.
I would definitely get another one. We are maybe thinking of the Prius V for a little more room, though my over 6' godparents have sat in the back seat and thought it was very roomy. Just with a little one, having extra trunk space would be nice.
ETA - forgot to say I have had no problems in the snow. It's obviously not 4WD but not bad.

When we got ours (2010, III), we didn't use the LIE at all so I'd say that really isn't a factor. In fact we didn't even get a Clean Pass for it until a week before we moved to where we are now where we have no choice but to take the LIE everyday. So that's just an extra bonus.
No issues in the snow. I'm more comfortable driving it in the snow than the Civic I've been driving for the past 10 years!
I'm a huge fan of this car. I've had it since June 2010 and not once have I ever regretted it for even a second. If I were to win a million dollars and could afford any car I wanted, I'd STILL get a Prius. No joke!

Re: Anyone drive a hybrid?
I think its pretty good in the snow too. I have a small nonhybrid economy car before my first prius and I always felt unsafe in it in the snow. Both of my Prius my me feel much safer. It handles pretty well too. This winter has been really mild, but the previous two winters it snowed constantly on LI & I drove the prius everywhere. If you are looking for a great value/MPG even without the clean pass lane, I would still say go for it!
