Best months to travel to florida
So after looking around - Nell - you sold me on the sandpearl haha
that being said - what is the best time to do Florida? what's the best month overall, and what is the best month out of September and October?
I am sure spring is better than now bc of hurricane season but i don't think i can wait that long for vacation right now.
Thanks!

Re: Best months to travel to florida
Last year we had a vaca to Florida (Hollywood Beach) booked for early Oct. Guess what? Hurricane Matthew came flying in and we almost had to cancel. Remember that? It was a bad one. It lingered for weeks. It was scheduled to hit the day before we were flying in. I spent days stressing out, calling the airline, calling the resort, trying to come up with an alternate destination, upset that the ONE time I get to go away a hurricane hits. Luckily, the hurricane took a last minute turn and avoided the area altogether and the resort had nothing more than a few palm leaves down. And it was very windy the whole time we were there. But other than that we were fine. No rain at all. Sunny and hot.
Having said that- I would avoid Sept and Oct if you could but if you can't I don't think either is better than the other. You just run the risk of a hurricane but hopefully you will be fine. We went early Oct an the weather was in the high 80s all week.
We did the Sandpearl in April and it was perfection. 82 degrees daily. ETA- here are the stats for one of the days we were there....

Best months to travel to florida
September and October are rainy and hurricane season, so whatever you book just get trip insurance. Go to insuremytrip.com, and it's cheap. I just booked a cruise for September, knowing the risk. But I got the trip insurance

Re: Best months to travel to florida
I honestly like early september. If a hurricane is on way, most flights will give you a credit. All hotels will cancel for you without penalties if hurricane is on the way.
Peak season is spring.
November is nice, but can be cold (no pool) if that is important to you.

Re: Best months to travel to florida
good call on the trip insurance. didn't think about that.
didn't think flights and all that would give credit for a hurricane honestly. I figured they would just say that's the risk you take. good to know!

When I had the issue last fall and it looked like we were going to have to cancel due to the Hurricane, Southwest said we could just get a full credit to use in the future, we wouldn't lose anything. And that was with the Wanna Get Away fare which is the cheapest option they have

Re: Best months to travel to florida
nell - we normally fly Jet blue. by normally i mean always. but now with the baby i feel like we might just do SW out of Islip since it is literally five minutes from our house. so that's good to know about the whole hurricane thing. god forbid, but good to know just in case.

Southwest allows you to cancel up until 15 minutes before the plane takes off without penalty (you will receive full credit to use on another flight which is good for a year from the date of your booking)....without there being a weather issue. That is just their standard policy FYI

Yes I should have clarified- this is their policy always. And definitely go out of Islip. It is worth it's weight in gold for convenience. It is 5 min from my house too. The parking is so close. Security is so quick. It's just EASY. and then when you get home, after a long trip, a tiring vacation, it is so NICE to get in your car and just be home in 5 minutes. I cannot stand JFK. Like it's the bane of my existence and any time I have to fly out of there I get massive anxiety

thank you both! :) I kind of assumed it was only for certain fares. the cancellation thing i mean.
and yes - especially with a baby i don't need to worry about who is picking us up and if they have a car seat etc bc we can just leave our car there.
now to pick a date! haha thanks guys!!
