Who has gone away with an infant under 9 months?

We are planning a driving trip for older DC. How difficult is a trip with a infant (almost 7 months here)? Any tips appreciate.

Who has gone away with an infant under 9 months?

We went to Boston when dd1 was 3 months.

Leave during nap time so they sleep in the car, hopefully.
Other than that it's pretty easy. We brought her rock n play to sleep in, her stroller which she napped in.

just try to time the drive with naps and hopefully the baby will sleep a good chunk of the drive in the car. Do you have a car that allows you to hop in the backseat if the baby gets fussy? At that age since they aren't really mobile yet it's easy to just distract them, once they get older and want to move around they get more frustrated staying in their car seats for a long time. Other than the car ride the baby will be fine and probably just nap while you're on the go in DC.

Who has gone away with an infant under 9 months?

I've been driving far distances with my son since he was 8 weeks. We tried to plan most of our driving for nap time since he was HORRIBLE in the car From 4 months-20 months.

The hardest part for us was bringing enough of whatever they were eating/drinking at the time and bottles (if you are using them) plus I would bring dish soap, etc. As for the actual traveling, leaving when they would otherwise sleep is smart and just don't have a really rigid arrival in your head because you might need to make some stops

Did DC twice with young kids... at 4 mo and 8 mo
It's actually very easy. I find the tough age to be a young toddler (just under 2). D.C. Is very walkable, stroller friendly and has lots to see.
Don't overpack or overplan. The more you go with the flow, the better.

And don't forget... DC has tons of pharmacies around each corner... you can easily pick up some food, diapers, formula, snacks and so on.

Re: Who has gone away with an infant under 9 months?

We went away with my DS when he was that young and it was pretty easy. I remember specifically wanting to get a trip in before he started solids because I wanted the pleasure of getting away with him without having to plan around feeding him legit food Chat Icon (my DS nursed, so in that regard we really didn't need much).

ETA- I noticed you said almost 7 months... I was referencing like under 6 months. Either way, I think that age is easy to travel with. We've always gone on trips and my DS who is now almost 4 is a really good traveler.

We went with dd1 when she was just shy of 9 mos. IMO that's the easiest age to travel with them. They go with the flow in their stroller, they can eat some smushed up real food (or pouches - easy to travel with), and you don't have to run after them. Have a great trip!

Re: Who has gone away with an infant under 9 months?

We went on a trip (driving, 5 hours away) with my 8 month old and she was fine - like others said, the hardest part for us was the packing. All those diapers, baby food, pack and play (to sleep in), toys, etc. takes up a lot of room in the car. But she had no problem with the drive itself and once we got there we had no issues. However, I was never one to believe in strict nap times or food times or bedtimes so that helped....if you have a set schedule I imagine it would be a little more stressful.

We went to Lancaster when my DD was 2 months old. She slept for most of the way. I agree on the tip to bring dish soap so you can wash bottles at the hotel.

We started trips with my DS at 4 months. We flew to FL the first trip but then that summer did a few road trips. We just went about our trip like normal and would stop if needed etc. Its easy when they are that young. Once potty trained it was a but more planned but babies are easy!

I guess it depends on how far the drive is. We have done a few 5ish hour trips. They have been no problem for our infant or when we were potty training DD1.
