Amtrak Penn to DC
I heard there are issues at Penn. i just checked the train schedule for a weekday morning and there are barely any trains running. Plus the lowest fair tickets dont even exist
Should i just drive?

Re: Amtrak Penn to DC
I haven't taken Amtrak recently, but it does get expensive. Driving is not cheap with the tolls. Another option that I have used several times are the buses. I have taken both the Bolt Bus and the Megabus. They are relatively cheap.

There are always issues at Penn, unfortunately you can't predict if its going to affect your particular train though
I'm a huge advocate of taking the train vs driving if i go by myself - its a chance to relax, catch up on reading/watching something and having some alone time that i rarely get!

100% I rather pay double and have to deal with Penn Station then ever, ever, ever drive anywhere. But I hate driving and I get lost. So that's just me.
the issues at Penn should not be affecting the Amtrak bookings at this point I don't think. They are usually sporadic and pop up unplanned.
I don't think they start real planned "work "until the summer

So could they be sold out more than 14 days out? The only AM trains are basically in the middle of the night.
Going with DDs so i have to consider that

That is very strange. The website doesn't say anything about reduced trains? When are the tickets for?

Re: Amtrak Penn to DC
So 4 tickets is really $$
One way is 300-600 for all of us!
I cant justify that for 2-3 nights
Maybe i should drive - i have a CRV so mayne $100 RT in gas, 50 tolls and $150 to park at hotel
Still cheaper than amtrak! But traffic....

Is that with the child discount? Children are half off. Do you have AAA?
We took Amtrak to DC once and because I don't like sitting in the car, and in traffic, we loved it. I think we paid $225 one way total as a walk up fare in Penn Station for myself and 2 kids.

Kids are 13 and 11 and 13 yo show up as adult. I chose student and AAA options and still min 300 one way (8am from penn) and up to 600 return trip
These are all "value". There are no saver options. Its june 8-11

June 8th is a work day, so that's probably why it's so expensive. We went on the weekend (Thanksgiving)

Re: Amtrak Penn to DC
Amtrak is very expensive. I used to do that trip a few times a year and overtime flying became cheaper than Amtrak.
You might want to look into flights. Most are from LGA so you are going to want to go out of the Marine Terminal to avoid the mess at the main terminals.

Amtrak Penn to DC
From what I hear from people, flying to DC is usually cheaper than Amtrak. My co-worker has a conference in DC next week and she tried to book with Amtrak, but the flight was cheaper , so she had to go with that.

It is - it's under $200 RT to fly!
It's cheaper to fly to Boston than take Amtrak as well.
