Taking Amtrak in Penn Station
I've never taken Amtrak out of Penn Station before and thinking about using it next week to go to Albany for a work trip. I have a general idea of where the Amtrak area is after I get off the LIRR, but not exactly sure how to find it and once I do, how do I find the train I am taking? And how much time should I allow to get from the LIRR to the Amtrak train?
Thanks!

I take Amtrak when I go to Albany for work. You will see signs that say Amtrak (it's usually by stairs going up because I believe you have to go to the next level up from where LIRR area is). There is a board showing all the trains, just the way LIRR has. I believe the earliest train going to Albany departs at 7:15am (the Maple Leaf line). And the station is Albany-Rensselaer.

Re: Taking Amtrak in Penn Station
Amtrak is really easy to take. It is located one level up from the main LIRR area (8th Avenue side).
Since it is your first time, I would leave about 30 minutes or so to get up there and get on your train but you don't need a lot of time at all.
Once you are in the Amtrak Terminal there is a huge Switch Board in the center -- you can't miss it. They only board trains a few minutes before their departure time. Everyone just lines up and you get on.

Re: Taking Amtrak in Penn Station
As everyone said, its just one floor up from the main LIRR concourse - but closer to the 8th avenue side (NJ transit is closer to the 7th ave side)
The trains usually pull in about 10-15 min before departure, so if you plan to get a train that gets you into Penn 20-30 min before your Amtrak train leaves, you'll be fine. Assuming you have your ticket already?

Yes, I have the ticket - just wasn't too sure of the logistics.
Thanks everyone!

It is also where NJ transit trains board as well. There is a huge board with the train #'s departures etc; and the track assignments are called not long before departure (although with amtrak Im not sure how long before).
