Some sort of animal in my duct work?

Out of nowhere today I am hearing what sounds like an animal rummaging around and making squeaky noises in the walls of a few rooms in my house on the first floor. I think there is an animal in my ductwork? I have forced air - AC and heat. how could this animal have gotten in there and most importantly who can I call to get it out???? I'm so freaked out and grossed out right now!!!!

In my own experience, it's usually a mouse. It sounds gross, but they're usually little gray field mice. They can slither anywhere. You can DIY and put a trap with cheese or peanut butter in there or you can call an animal control specialist or wildlife control.

Re: Some sort of animal in my duct work?

I would have a professional take a look. There is no point trying to catch it yourself - could take days or longer and all the while you are trying to do it the rodent is creating havoc in your system. I had a squirrel in our attic last fall - I nearly lost my mind - listening to it scurrying over and back aghhhhhhhChat Icon luckily I was able to see the squirrel in question scurrying down my roof to a nearby tree and DH was able to get up there to block his entry way - the squirrel had gnawed away at some wooden slats on the side of the house and managed to get his way in that way...I had alway seen squirrels on my roof but had not idea they were breaking and entering!!

Good luck!

Our friends had a possum in their basement drop ceiling! Chat Icon They thought it was a mouse until the tail started hanging down! I'd call an exterminator.

I would have died. Right on the spot dropped dead.
I cannot standdddddd Possums. They scare me and skeeve me out so bad.
They look like HUGE rats.
I can't.
I would have had to burn the house down after that

Call somebody. They can eat your wires and cause a fire.
