Talk to me about Lancaster, Pa
We've never been, only have done Hershey a few times. My husband and I were thinking of taking my 8-year old DD for maybe 3 nights over Easter weekend. I'd love to hear everything you suggest we do if so. Also, should we book at the Eden Resort(which I know is very popular in the warmer months for their outdoor pool) or the Marriot? We like a nice hotel. Any experience in either and which hotel would you chose for April. Thanks so much for any and all info.

We loved Eden but we went over Labor Day weekend when it was hot. The suites are beautiful and great pool areas and playground for kids. We did Dutch wonderland, but our kids are much younger. They were 1 and 3. Went to kettle village for local shopping (the jams are great) and did a horse and buggy ride from there as well which was nice.
Edit to add we also did the Strasberg train

We love Eden too. They do have an indoor pool though it's nowhere near as nice as the outdoor one. We've never been, but I've heard good things about the Turkey Hill Experience.

Dutch Wonderland isn't open around Easter, they open for the season at the end of April. I wouldn't waste the money on Eden unless the pool is open. I honestly wouldn't go to Lancaster in April. I would pick something else! Especially since DW isn't open, and the farms will likely be muddy still.

Hmm, well we are going to Hershey Springtime in the park, but not Easter weekend. I know they offer it then. You could go to Wildwood, I believe they are open. Mystic, CT. Cape Codder resort in Cape Cod looks great (has an indoor water park). Spring is tricky since it can still be really cool out.

Personally I would do an indoor waterpark type place like Kalahari or Aquatopia at that time of year.

We went last year during Spring Break week and it wasn't bad at all price wise (not much more than a normal week) but I think their prices are going up- especially since phase 2 is opening.

Yeah but last year was an "untraditional" Spring Break...wherein most people outside of LI didn't have off. This year it's almost $1000 for 2 nights!

This is so true. I remember looking a couple of months before and Orlando flights were reasonable. Orlando. Disney. During Spring Break. I was so annoyed that DH refused to go.
Anyway, I second the vote for Mystic. My mom, DS and I did it last year and everyone loved it. We took the ferry.

We are doing the Easter weekend package at Doubletree Lancaster
Easter activities all throughout the weekend including egg hunts and ice cream socials, the easter bunny, and they deliver easter baskets to your room in the morning, brunch...and they have a nice pool area with water slide and spray zones.

Thanks so much for this info. Is this a nice hotel? Any reason you'd chose this over The Eden Resort(just curious)? Do any other hotels do an Easter type weekend in Lancaster? What else will you be doing while there?

Yes its a Hilton hotel, very nice...rooms are huge and nice restaurant. I chose this over Eden because of the good package deal they offered for Easter. We plan on arriving Friday night, swimming, and eating before bed. Saturday we want to go to Kitchen Kettle Village, eat at one of the family style amish restaurants, partake in all of the hotel activities they have on schedule for the kids, my kids will definitely want to swim more, maybe if they decide to get out of the pool we can drive over to the Turkey Hill experience. Sunday do the easter brunch and head home in afternoon.

Sounds perfect! Did Eden have anything fun for Easter?

If you are eating in a family style restaurant go to Good and Plenty (plain and fancy is good but I think it is closed for renovations)
Also I think Kitchen Kettle Village is having breakfast with the easter bunny Saturday morning.
If you ladies want amazing baked goods go to Bird in Hand Bake shop on Gibbons Road (not the one on Rt 340)
Check to see if Lapp Valley Farm is open on Saturday for homemade ice cream and to see dairy cows up close
There is also a miniture horse farm on Paradise Lane in Ronks that has pony rides and a cart ride pulled by the mini horses
Just remember Lancaster is a town that rolls the sidewalks up on Sunday (basically nothing is open)
