Eye issue

My 7 year old says his eye bothers him once in a while. He usually goes in the bathroom and puts some water on it and says that it helps. He said it's the inside of his right eye. It does get red, but that could also be from him rubbing it. It just happens sporadically. A lot more in the last few weeks. At first I thought it could be allergies with the mild February we were having and it still could be. It doesn't get puffy, but red and then stops bothering him after a while.

Does anyone know what this could be? Do I take him to an eye doctor or even his regular allergist?

I would think it might be the start of allergies, but I would bring him to an eye dr 1st to just check the eye as a precaution
