Party advice needed

Dh never wants to do anything for his birthday. It is not exactly a milestone year (42) but he was pretty sick last year and now that he's doing much better I really wanted to do something to celebrate. So I booked the back room of his favorite bar for a simple get together. He is not exactly gregarious and is happy just drinking with his buddies, but at the same time he has lots of friends from various points in his life (hs, college friends, volunteer stuff, plus new friends that we have made thru dc etc). And I am not much of a party planner at all, but now pretty much everyone has responded yes and we have close to 60 people coming and I am second guessing myself! I will have tons of food and open bar of course, plus I arranged for karaoke/dj. I will decorate and have cake too. My question is, is that enough? I go to so many parties where there are video tributes and candy buffets and photo booths and whatnot -is a simple party sufficient or would you be expecting more? And if you have any ideas for someone who is extremely disorganized I would appreciate it!

I don't think you need to do any more than you're doing. Like you said, it's not a milestone birthday and he's a low key guy. I'm sure he's going to be happy just having all his friends together, good food, and good drinks. The karaoke is a nice touch!

I think what you're doing sounds perfect. Don't stress too much over it. In this world of pintrest, everyone feels like they have to make everything into a "picture perfect" event. What's really important is that your DH and friends and family get together and have a good time. Sounds like your DH would not be into all those unnecessary extras

Re: Party advice needed

I don't think a candy buffet is ever necessary for an adult.

My DH would kill me if I ever even had a party for him- much less with a candy buffet or photo booth.

I'm not overly outgoing, so if DW threw a party for me, I would just want people to show up. No gimmicks, photo booths, etc.

It sounds perfect to me. You have food and drinks, that's all anyone really expects. The entertainment is a plus. There's really no need to do anything else. No need to stress out on little details that nobody will miss.

I agree with the other posters - candy buffets are for kids parties.
