My hubby and I are headed to Rome, Florence, Venice and Paris in May! Super excited! I'm wondering if anyone has any restaurant recommendations? Thanks in advance! Chat Icon

I can't stress enough how incredible this place is. Everything is soooooo good but the truffle pizza is a must!! A religious experience lol. Every person I have sent to this place has contacted me and said it was the best meal they had while in Rome.

The food in Venice is good! You just have to find the Baccari! Sit down places aren't the best.

I reviewed some places on this thread. I've been to Venice 4 times in the past year, lol.

Copy and pasted from another thread for Rome food (sorry it's so bitsy!):

We did a 3 1/2 hour walking food tour with Eating Italy Tours. We did the taste of Testaccio tour, which is the area where you will get really good food. Our guide was Dominico. We started at a bakery, went to a pizza place, went to a local deli to try some local cheese and ham/salami. Then we did a little walk through a nice graveyard (John Keats is buried there) and saw the only pyramid in Rome. It was still covered in marble, which is surprising because of the way the Romans recycled marble. This walk was an added surprise not listed on the website. We also saw the old slaughterhouse and he explained how tripe and other dishes like that came about. After the walk, we went to the Testaccio market and tried some food at different stalls. We tried Buffalo Mozzarella, fresh Bruschetta, and Roman rice balls (Suppli) with a local beer. I would have liked sometime to walk around more, but we didn't get that. Oh well, next trip I guess. We then went to a restaurant that was basically built into Testaccio mountain. We had three famous Roman pastas and water and wine. It was really good! This was then followed by a local gelato place.

On the food tour (in Testaccio) we stopped at:
Barbarini bakery
Volpetti Piu Tavola Calda for pizza
Flavio al Velavevodetto (lunch and tried three AMAZING pastas)
Giolitti a Testaccio for gelato

3 other Gelato places we tried (on our own):
San Crispino (right by the Pantheon)
Gelateria deal Teatro
Grom (chain, but so good!)

Restaurants (Most suggestions were found on Chowhound, Bon Appetit or the Food Tour we did):

The first night we went to Armando al Pantheon (right by the Pantheon). They had really good Roman dishes. We tried the Bruschetta, Carbonara, Amatriciana, Steamed Artichokes, Cacio e Pepe, and Saltimbucca. Excellent place and probably my favorite on the whole trip. Make reservations.

The next day we were in the Vatican area for lunch, so that was hard to find a place. I looked online and found La Locanda di Pietro. We had really good pizza. The crust was slightly thicker than another place we went to, but it was still great. The sauce tasted great and I got the special DOP Buffalo Mozzarella topping. It was light and I loved it. It as a surprise since it was right by the Vatican. I made a reservation, but it wasn't necessary.

For dinner we went to L’Arcangelo. We had some appetizers to start and then pasta (get the gnocchi!) and then DH and I shared the pigeon with a veg side. It was good, but expensive, but it sort of was Roman fine dining. Everything we ordered was good, but the menu seemed to be slightly limited. It's nice for a fine dining night in Rome. Make reservations.

The next day we went to Piccolo Mondo in the Villa Borghese area on Via Aurora. This was because it was right downstairs from our Airbnb. It was a bit pricey, but the service was really good and the food was good, too. We went there twice. The Saltimbucca was good, but not as good as the the place we went to on the first night. They seem to have more seafood there than other places in Rome. I made a reservation, but it wasn't necessary. I don't thinkI would have gone here had it not been downstairs, but it was good.

That night we went to a great pizza place called LI Rioni. It was so good. They had some good fried specialties for apps and the pizza was nice and thin and so tasty. I highly suggest it. Make reservations.

A good place by the Colosseum is la Taverna dei Fori Imperiali, but I didn't go there the last trip (the above I went to on my last trip and did more of a review), but rather a few years ago. I liked it a lot.

If you go to Burano or Murano off of Venice, let me know. I can give you some places for there.

La Scala in Trastevere is definitely a favorite. For romance, there is a restaurant in Villa Borghese. There is another restaurant that is great (i can't remember the name) but its around the corner from Campo di Fiori in an alleyway. Dont miss the coffee place around the block from the Pantheon (sorry the name escapes me on this one as well)! You will see a small, packed place with standing room only.

Oh and for a whole in the wall place with locals, go to Hostaria da Pietro, close to Piazza Novona.

Pietro Valentini is the one near Campo di Fiori fyi... Found it online:)

Enjoy your trip!
