Flu and work question

I have the flu...started feeling off sat night and my fever broke last night in the middle of the night.

Doctor said I can go back to work 24 hours after fever breaks.

I home today and still coughing and congested.

I technically can go back to work tomorrow but all my work "mommies" keep texting me and telling me to stay out the rest of the week (I don't work fridays)

I have never taken off 4 days from work! Part of me thinks I should go because I technically can but part of me knows Im not even close to 100%

If you had the flu when did you go back?

Flu and work question

If you still do not feel 100%, I would not go in UNLESS I absolutely had to ($, important meeting, etc).

Re: Flu and work question

Flu makes you feel pretty horrible- even after the fever is gone
I'd stay home the extra day - then rest up all weekend and you'll be much better.

Why push yourself?

Re: Flu and work question

I wouldn't go unless it was absolutely necessary. Take off Thursday. The Flu makes you so rundown it will be god for you just to take one more day to rest.

I would not go, you may end up making yourself feel worse if by over doing it

and you don't want to run the risk of getting anyone else sick either!

I wouldn't go - it's just one more day at this point and as a person who caught the flu two years ago from people who felt they couldn't miss work - your coworkers will appreciate it.

Urgent care told me to stay home 5 days. I worked remotely towards the end as I started to feel better but, I was pretty run down fora while.

I had the flu and was out for almost 2 weeks. I kept trying to go back to work 24 hours after the fever broke and I would relapse. They sent me home twice. Stay home!

Stay home..

I am actually going through the same thing as you. I felt it in my throat on Friday, felt a little sick on Sat. Went to work on Mon and Tues. Today I went to the Doctor and not only do I have the Flu, I have both A & B strand. Everyone was in shock at the Doctor's office, including myself. I had a slight fever last night, but nothing compared to how i felt when I got the flew a few years ago.

Doctor said I can go back on Friday but I may just go back on Monday.

Re: Flu and work question

I like to think of it from the perspective of the coworkers. Would they want to work in close proximity of someone recovering from the flu and can potentially still spread it? Probably not lol.,I'd just take the excuse to rest.

Why would you torture yourself and go back when you feel like shizz?

Stay home and get better. You wont do anyone good if you feel like crap.

This!!! 100%!!! I cannot stand when people come to work still sick! It's so selfish! My supervisor had the virus, took off a day, came back in next day and I made her stand in my office door to talk to me, lol! Of course she relapsed and ended up being out a week and a half. If she hadn't pushed , she might not have been sick so long. I had the flu 4 years ago and was out a full work week. Don't push yourself, take tomorrow and then you have through the weekend to recover. No job , or very few, are worth your health.

Re: Flu and work question

I started a new job 1/9/2017, I was tired all week and thought it was the new job and move to my new home. When I got home from work Thursday night I was running 102. Ran that for over 24 hrs, had a hard time breaking it. Went to the Dr, friday, had the flu. They told me I was contagious until fever free for 24 hrs. I usually go back to work too soon, so this time I stayed home an extra day. The first day after the fever broke I was still sore all over, THAT extra day home helped.

PS I never call in sick, but 4 days into a new job!! OY, I had to. They actually sent one other new employee home bc he was sick and two other called out.

Give yourself a break, stay home!! Feel better

Agreed! I hate when others come in when sick. I don't want to get sick! At my job we get an insane amount of sick time in my mind use the sick time if you have it!
