I don't recall the Obama children being called racists names. If they were that is just as unacceptable and i am quite sure there was just as much outrage over that as this.

Chelsea Clinton was absolutely brutally made fun of for her looks at age 12 while her dad was president. Like on SNL.
I know there was speculation that both Sasha and Malia Obama were "boozing", that Malia was on drugs and in rehab and other not so flattering accusations made about them.
So this has clearly happened in the past. It is wrong in all cases to publicly criticize and humiliate a child, but this is nothing new unfortunately.

I felt terrible that he was left to walk by himself behind the rest of his siblings with millions of people watching him. What about his behavior was so off that people have the need to talk negatively about him.

Honestly, his eye contact and affect seem out of sync. OF COURSE no one should be diagnosed based on videos!!! That is unethical. but I simply thought it was an interesting question. If the boy was missing an arm for example, everyone would visually see and I bet the reason would be put out there.
But with mental, cognitive and developmental disorders, you can't see them as obviously. But how much good could be done if these disorders were more openly discussed and awareness and research were increased. I think of Rosemary Kennedy and how the family hid her brain damage and cognitive/behavioral problems from the public. And how much good could have come. I just think the stigma still surrounding these disorders is so unfortunate.
Anyway, I was unaware there was a statement put out that he does not suffer from autism. That settles it then.
My comments/questions weren't directed at you personally. It was more a general question why the media and other public figures are reporting about him having autism.

Fair enough, sorry I misunderstood you. But I do think it is because people are noticing these behaviors and trying to make sense of it.

My son has horrible eye contact and is socially awkward. He's a totally typical 9 year old boy with no developmental disorders who likes to play sports, does well in school and has lots of friends. Why anyone is speculating about this young boy is ridiculous.

Rush Limbaugh called Chelsea "the White House dog" when she was 12. Don't think he was fired over it. But I do think Barron needs to be left alone. Hopefully remaining in NY will insulate him a little. And frankly, the media needs to focus on Trump and what he's doing.

I agree children should not be attacked but it's amazing to me 8 years ago the hateful things that were said about the Obama girls on social media especially Facebook and lets go back further to 1992 with Chelsea Clinton(prior to social media).
There are sick evil people out there but let's not act as if this is something new.

It's not new at all and it was as unacceptable then as it is now
I don't think anyone on this thread was saying this was the first time a child of the president was a target of disgusting, hateful comments.
There always was and always will be low class, disgusting people in this world who don't know where to draw the line

I 100% agree!! WHO CARES if something seems off?
You see I have a special needs child..She has ADHD and sensory processing disorder.. It is no ones business but mine and my husbands. My child looks normal she can be sweet and loving but then you at times you can see her stimming, flapping her arms, tighting her body and staring off into space. I know others can see it when she does it. Her diagnosis doesn't change anything and she still has feelings and I can not imagine having people talk about her like I have seen. The child did not ask for the spotlight. I have seen some horrible things said about him not just by SNL but others online. Actually quite disturbing. I find it very sad and digusting that people are even discussing this. It is hurtful and wrong, for any children to be talked about. I know its not a new thing as past presidents children were talked about and It will always be wrong! This one just bothers me a little more because I am a special needs parent and I want the best for her and this is the stuff that makes me cry.
My heart actually breaks for this child and all children that have a diagnosis or maybe are just socially awkward.. We don't know anything is even wrong with him but its not my business.
I believe The SNL star should be fired!
My wish for America is to stop this hatred and move on. He is a child leave it alone. If the Trumps don't want to address it. I can totally understand as its a private matter.
