When do you read to your toddler?
DD is 15 months and we should definitely be reading more to her.
We play a lot and she knows a lot of words/ understands us, etc., but I know the benefits of reading daily.
Do you do it right before bed?
I feel like by then she'll be so checked out that it won't even matter.

When do you read to your toddler?
I have a 14 month old and I don't read to him at all. I am soo busy with my 6 and 5 year old that I really should make an effort with my son.
I think I will start after bath when he is in his PJs and snuggle on the couch because during the day/after school it is very hard to.

When do you read to your toddler?
Always before bed since my girls were infants. After bath, pjs, etc, we sit together and read. It's a good time bc they are calm so they can sit and take it in and it helps them relax.

Re: When do you read to your toddler?
After dinner. We also go to the library and I get books that are intermediate and all 3 kids (1-6 yo) listen.

When do you read to your toddler?
When my DD was that age, we would read right after dinner or after bath. Now that she is older, we read before bed.

Re: When do you read to your toddler?
At that age I used board books in the high chair when they ate. The books got messy, but were easy to wipe down. At around 2, we began to read as part of the bedtime routine.

Re: When do you read to your toddler?
My girls are no longer toddlers but we started reading to them very young like before 6 months every night before bed. We read every night about 30-45 minutes before bed. I think its paying off because I was told my 1st grader has the vocabulary of a 4th grader. Sometimes its hard to find the time to read now that they are older but they love books so its really worth it.
ETA when they were toddler we would read to them while they were in the crib.

When do you read to your toddler?
Every day before bed, he gets 3-4 books read to him. If he asks during the day, I'll read to him as well. If we're home, he also gets one book before nap.

When do you read to your toddler?
Maybe read yo her while she's in the bath? When my son was younger and even now at 6 that's what I do. Kind of kills 2 birds with one stone and saves time And now that my son is supposed to read some by himself, I find he's more willing to do it while he's splashing around in the bath... It's also how he learned all his letters too... I would hand him those foam bath tub letters, have him name them, etc... it was more fun for him then flash cards or something

When do you read to your toddler?
Definitely every night before bed, but also randomly throughout the day. I use reading as down time. When I get tired of playing I'll just grab a pile of books and we snuggle and read!

If I see her grab one of her books we sit and read it. She got Eloise for her birthday and makes me read it several times a day.

Re: When do you read to your toddler?
Right before bed. DS takes a bath, has a sippy cup with milk and I or DH reads to him while he drinks his milk (and we may read the story 3 or 4 times mind you depending on how long he wants to drag out the process ). Then we brush teeth and off to bed. Its been his routine since he was 2 months old.

Re: When do you read to your toddler?
I have read to my daughter at bedtime since we came home from the hospital (but I am a reading teacher ). She is 2.5 now and loves books. We still always read right before bed and she will often ask me to read to her throughout the day too.

When do you read to your toddler?
We have family time right before bedtime-- DH and I sit with dd and read to her- if DH is traveling for work we FaceTime then do family time--we started this when dd was around two- before that I usually read to her in the afternoon. I still read to her at other times if she asks or if we are taking a nap.

When do you read to your toddler?
We have always done 2 books at bedtime. Dd at 3 now picks out the books and tries to read them to us as we are preparing her for bed.

When do you read to your toddler?
Always at bedtime. Sometimes during the day if we needed some downtime before nap. Now at 6, he loves reading before bed. We'll do the same with our DD when she gets a little older.

Re: When do you read to your toddler?
When my kids were that age I'd read to them during the day for 10 minutes at a time and also any time they'd grab a book or show interest. I've always kept their a number of books "on display" (I rotate them, even now that they're older, 3 and 7)in the sense that they are somewhere where they can reach them (I had a space for them on the floor in front of our fireplace) and I'd stand them up so they could see the cover and flip through pages.
We also have always read to them at bedtime, it was part of the routine, but only one book.
Just do the best you can. Start out slowly, reading a favorite book. Something like a touch and feel book is easy and they enjoy it. Just look at the pictures, add some of your own words, point things out, underline the text with your finger so they start to see that text goes with words, and eventually it will become something you enjoy and more of a habit.

Me too. I think about it all the time. I used to with my 1st until my 2nd came. I'm lucky I if I get to work on time or wash my hair. Sometimes I choose between eating or peeing. I feel awful! Sorry to hyjack post!
