Food gift for diabetic?
I normally get them a small food gift, like a box of chocolates, but now they are diabetic. What are some appropriate food gifts I can give them now?
Any ideas?

Why does it have to be food? What about a nice candle?

Sugar free cookies or dessert could be a good option.

Re: Food gift for diabetic?
Many bakeries have a sugar-free section. You could have them wrap up a cookie tray for you. Sugar free chocolates. Does it have to be food? If they're diabetic they might be watching their diet and staying away from sweets altogether. Do you know if they aren't?

I would stay away from a ton of sugar free As per my mother, they are like a laxative lol
I agree with PP, maybe a candle? Or assorted nuts?

I agree, my dad is diabetic & does not like sugar free chocolate...it's like giving a meat lover a tofu burger, not the same lol I think nuts or a non food item would be better

Agree. Unless OP specifically knows that this person likes and eats sugar-free, I'd do non-food.

What about the fancy pears/fruits from harry and David?
Omaha steak cert Hickory farms sausage and cheese
I'd probably avoid dessert foods.

Thanks all for the suggestions.
I just prefer to give food items to acquaintances. They eat it and it's gone and aren't stuck with an impersonal dust collector.
I'll probably get the assorted nuts. I read somewhere a diabetic can have dark chocolate. Is that true?

Diabetic shouldn't have any added sugar. There is plenty of sugar in every day food, so they should keep away. Tho my mom will cheat and have a piece of cake or candy when her sugar is low

If they like nuts, I would go with nuts. The sugar free chocolates are not enjoyed by every diabetic.

In this case mixed nuts are a good option if you know they're not allergic. You could do tea, coffee, wine if they're into that.

My dad was diabetic and sugar free Pettit fours are delicious!! But everything else he would complain about not being good ((to us, not the people who were sweet enough to think of him)).

Popcorn, wine, coffee/tea. I would not do anything sugar free, it's gross as per my diabetic parents. Also, if you're doing nuts, check to make sure none of the nuts are honey roasted/glazed.

ITA on the fake crap. I'd rather not have any candy or snack instead of the sugar-free stuff....
I do like nuts, though. Meats are good for diabetics, since there's basically no carbohydrates/sugars. DW will sometimes find unusual meats for me. Rattlesnake, kangaroo, alligator, rabbit, etc.

Re: Food gift for diabetic?
My FIL is diabetic and we have brought over trays of plain, salted and spiced nuts which he could eat and enjoyed. As a PP said, just no sugary glazes or coatings.
Also, we've sent him Omaha steaks for meats which he enjoyed.
I actually would stay away from sugar free candies unless you know they like them. Not everyone does and I've heard of the laxative effect. Also dried fruits are ok but also pretty high in sugar so that could be difficult for the person too.

Re: Food gift for diabetic?
My husband is diabetic and he can't tolerate sugar substitutes at all. Getting the runs when you are insulin dependent can really throw off the blood levels. I feel terrible when people try to be nice & they get him sugar free sweets. He gets to have some sugar to treat low sugars anyway and he's used to limiting it to that & it doesn't usually bother him to skip sweets.
